morning to grab my new 48 fleetmaster. (will post pics as soon as I can)I may not be able to get a full size car hauler-may have to use a two wheel dolly. Question is; if I end up having to use a two wheel dolly, do I need to worry about the taking the torque tube out? Or can I leave it together? Its about 90 miles away. thanks

 

As long as it is in neutral, I think you are fine. I've rolled mine around the yard fine that way before it ran, but never towed it that way. I suppose you could wedge the clutch pedal in to be extra safe too.

edit: if you are really concerned, you can mount it backwards on the dolly.

The driveshaft runs inside the torque tube, which is fixed between the transmission and rear axle. As long as you have the transmission in neutral, it should be just fine.

 

Unless you have good reason to trust the tires and wheel bearings, I would strongly reccomend finding a trailer. U-Haul and similar out fits can rent you one. If the tow vehicle is capable of handling a tow dolly, it will pull a trailer. Locking up a wheel or blowing out a tire on that old Chevy could ruin your whole week end.

 

very good point..the 48 was driving until parked about a year ago, so it should be ok. i could just drive it, but i havnt gottn a chance to really tear into the brakes which is why i want to pull it.
