More pictures of the build. Have a lot of cleaning up to do yet Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Do you think it's possible for the power steering pump and air compressor to fit in their spots? The truck setup has them both down low. Curious if it will fit or if I'm gonna have to hunt down a different drive system.
I too am building a 48 IHC but mine is a KB-5. Let me know if you ever find that secret hord of parts. Good luck on your build! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Do you think it's possible for the power steering pump and air compressor to fit in their spots? The truck setup has them both down low. Curious if it will fit or if I'm gonna have to hunt down a different drive system. Running a s10 frame I had to get a smaller pulley for the power steering. Which made it a lot easier to remove the pump since it has holes in the pulley itself. (If you've ever messed with these truck ps pumps you know what I mean) i havent put the ps pump back in yet as the pictures show. As far as ac goes, I could have notched my passenger side frame and made it fit ( seen it done countless times). Personally I am gonna get a high mount ac bracket. I think speedway has something, but I haven't looked hard for one all I know is they make one. AC won't be till a later date though. GTO's have nice drive systems except the alts are on the bottom. Keep forgetting you are using the S10 frame. I just pulled my 5.3L today. Not too bad as far as leaks go in fact it's dirty but doesn't look as if it's had oil leaks at all. I pulled the truck intake off so I can pull the motor. The valley wasn't too bad but inside the intake runners and into the heads is pretty oily or gummed up. I was under the impression it was a low mile truck but am not so sure now. 3 header bolts broke off in the heads!!! So I'm gonna pull the heads and take them up to a shop up the street to have them removed. See what they say about their condition and what kind of miles they care to guess it might have. And when I pulled the driveline out of the 4L60E, all the trans fluid drained out. Am I wrong that it shouldn't drain. My brother was over saying it is normal. I was thinking it was a blown seal or something???? I posted pics in my build threads if you car to take a look.
Yes that's completely normal for the tranny fluid flowing out when you pull the driveshaft. That's some bad news with your manifold bolts breaking! Hopefully they can get them out. Be aware when pulling that engine apart like that all the bolts are torque to yield so you have to buy new ones on re-assembly. Also, when you put your new headers on, use the original metal gaskets or buy new from the stealership. They work amazing compared to aftermarket. My 5.3 has 57k on it and the intake runners weren't gummed up at all, just had the normal thin black layer of carbon. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Already called my buddy and told him. I'm gonna use this motor and trans for my mock up and score another setup from him when something comes along. He said I have first dibs on whatever comes in that I like. Either way I can clean this one up, might not be that bad.
Had a productive day today shortening the bed. Have some finish welding and grinding to do but here it is. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
On the bed shortening, did you butt weld the sheetmetal there or overlap it behind the stake pocket? Anyway, very nice truck. Bed is outstanding!
Looking good. When i shortened the bed on my 41 i just drilled the spot welds holding the front wall and stake pockets from the bed sides, then with the pockets and wall off, I trimmed off what i needed from the bed sides and then reinstalled the front wall/stake pockets and plug welded them, very little finish work or welding needed, i went from 125" WB to a 115" WB.
Thanks guys! Yes I did but weld them using my magnetic 90 degree welding blocks to hold it all straight. Terraizer I did start to drill out the spot welds on the drivers side but but my drill shit out so I said screw it. Didn't wanna go buy a new one haha I don't plan on chopping it. I lean more towards the unchopped internationals. Besides, I'm 6'3 and the cab is short enough with the seats just barely off the floor haha Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I understand. I want to chop mine but when I do im going to lower the bottom window lip on the doors so it doesn't look stupid and leave the back window stock size.
I wanted to chop mine as well but decided not too. 1) because my skills are not good enough to do it on my own. 2) because I too am 6'3". In searching online for truck photos, I quickly figured out that the old trucks that ran visors kind of looked chopped. So I picked up an old aluminum Fulton Sunshield visor. Now if I can figure out how to mount it!!! Here's a KB I just found posted on Fakebook the other day.
Iron Maiden I never gave much thought on a visor but after seeing this I'm thinking it's a must. Sent from my DROID RAZR using H.A.M.B. mobile app
Glad to see the Internationals getting some love. As far as chopping to me they already look chopped. Nice work 48, mine was already a short bed but I paid with the rest of it being a dog. To deep to turn back now.
That looks great rickl! She's comin along! That looks like a 429/460? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Just a 5.0 with a lot of 289 parts on it. I'm more excited about the front end and home made wide white walls. Not sure if I'll keep them but the rusty cragars and tires look cool in the pic.
Just got these today! BFG's Set of 5. Paid next to nothing for them. On the bad side, they're bias. But for runnin around town and short 15 mile trips I figure they will be okay. Gonna sand blast the wheels and shoot some black on them. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Starting to give the KB a face lift with a new front clip. Ran heater hoses and installed a mojave heater box as well and painted the front frame section with some good ole chassis saver. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Ive always seen people do this when cutting sheet... Im not a body person, but i have made some custom fabs with metal. What is the point? Straight line? Visible marker marks? I feel like a noob for not knowing haha.
