You know it still makes sense.. I know there's lots of us who share this, who think deuces are prettier than Vivian Leigh, and cannot resist our chubby '49-51 pals.. So.. post away, stories, pics.. don't need to be paired up (although that's cool). Let's just take it as it comes, in whatever order.. Mercs & deuces..
I never had both at the same time. But I had this ***orted pile of Deuce 5W for one day and traded it for the '51 Merc coupe below. (both pics taken "as found")
I'd say you did OK. The '51 is my favourite. The styling is m***ive. For me it's the standout FOMOCO design for '51. And yet, back in the old days, was it seen as strangely archaic, as Harry Bradley said?
Nothing says Merc and Deuce like Tom Fritz painting... a local car collector had Tom make a painting of his own Merc and roadster. Notice the reflection of the Merc on the roadster door...
^ Awesome. Lots of neat trickery on both of 'em. This one I drew based on Malcolm Hill's local (aussie) gennie roadster.
I don't have a lot of Mercury shots. They are thin on the ground down here. A local dealer had a very tidy metallic blue unchopped mild '50 with hopped flathead, all done, real trad & nice. Also here in Adelaide is an insane rust-free 23,000 mile ex-Michigan '51 Monterey(?)coupe, driver, dead stock, unrestored, just amazing. Too nice to mess with, two tone green with a few thin spots, Bedford cord?, just a sweet 90 something % car. It's so rad as is (stock), on wide white cords, it needs nothing changed, just put some cool people in it, and a saxophone, and cruise. I'll have to find shots of it and see what else I can dig up. Keep 'em coming
Link out to Starbird show.. Alcorn Merc a****st a few rad Mercs & some nice deuces too, a****st other stuff, 2007 Grand Lake .. https://public.fotki.com/kcslammers/full-size-11-car-shows/mercdeuce-reunion-a/
How about a Merc in a Deuce? My son and I are just in the beginning stages of building a 32 Pickup with a Merc flathead.
Corn Fed- that's so cool. My nephew is<25 y.o and is full immersed as a mechanic in a race car shop. He is totally into early Holden (aussie GM 1917-2017) speed equipment and has built himself a quick little '55 Holden using only old time parts.
