Awhile back I saw a thread touching on this subject, there were some crazy dollar amounts being thrown around, so I'm just wonderin what did ya pay and what did ya get? Kustomd told a few guys at the sherman/Denison show last year about a 49 Merc coupe that was in bad need of floors, no motor, ******, seats, good gl***, fender skirts, all for a grand! He was called a liar to his face! A good friend of ours bought it as soon as we returned home.

I've seen a couple of runners in the hamb clssifieds with most of the body work done(chopped), no int gl*** etc for 12,000 to 16,000. I've seen some beautiful finished ones for around 30,000. Brad

Well, I was hoping for some response here guys. Here's what brings me up to all this, I saw a thread a few days ago, someone had come across a 50 model in farmers field, it didn't appear to have any gl***, drivetrain, front cap or suspension for the princely sum of 200.00 bucks! What a deal! Now let me break some hearts, I will try to get some pics of this one up but it'll be slow goin', 1951 Mercury coupe, no engine or trans, lots of surface rust, bad rear floors, very rotten deck lid. Comes with perfect deck lid in primer, beautiful dash, extra gauge cluster, extra grille, and any ch***is parts needed. I bought this one yesterday for my wife....everyone sitting down? $150.00. And I bought this from someone who knows what these cars are goin for, in fact, this man has a finished 51 on an Olds. ch***is!

I bought two Mercs last yeat this one I paid only $150. Hopefully the front clip will be on my Merc next fall. Stay tune....... The other I bought for $50 and the rear quarters, back bumper and the front fenders are in good shape.

Whenever it drys out around here I need to go pick up a '50 4 dr. This one the guy gave it to me. Its rough but the rear quarters are in excellent shape. The guy started chopping the top and it is setting on a late model ch***y.

I'm working on on another deal a guy has four Mercs setting in a field. I'm trying to adopt them. if I can just get more info from him.

Good deals are out there, just need to keep your eyes open.

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

P***ed up on one a few years ago for $650 bucks.
    Driver's window was cracked.
Paint was pretty badly sun-faded on top. Looked original.
Dent in front fender between wheelwell and bumper.
    Seat was splitting out.
    1 flat tire.
    Engine smoked some.

    What was I thinking????
Dunno really, just didn't want to deal with an unchopped merc at the time.

Sounds like the "What's a 19** Corvette worth?" questions.
    Same answer too...
Somewhere between free and if ya have to ask you can't afford it, depending on condition.

My general rule on cars is ANYTHING that runs, stops, and is relatively "safe" to drive (That means your feet can't drag on the ground while going down the road, and the exhaust doesn't exit into the car) is worth around $1000. andd "cl***" and the value goes up

I saw a '50 more door in a wrecking yard yesterday. Had a car on top of it, roof was caved in the middle, otherwise it was pretty complete.

I think it was a '50. Non-extended quarters and push ****on release on door handles. You tell me.

I have a 50 2 door, bad gl***, good back gl***, needs rockers, it's a canadian with clean Texas ***le, excellant hood, doors, decklid, quarters. Floors are perfect, no seats, dash all there. I gave $200.00 for it about 6-7 months ago. I have turned down $5,000.00 for it. So what are they worth? TP

I gave 800 bucks for this one last summer. Looks nasty, but it actually has some pretty damn good sheetmetal...-Abone.

Between 1999 & 2001 I saw 3 Merc coupes, 49 & 50s gutted no motor or trans Nice bodys no rust with all the trim and gl*** go from 9500 to 11,000.
Two were at the swap meet and one word of mouth.
I got My 49 coupe less motor and trans for 3,500. Its a solid car exellent floors but rockers are gone. Montana mice got em. That included delivery.
Old Beet and Me picked up a 50 moredoor complete but rusty for 500.
Thing is You never know whats around the corner. Might be a piece of **** a Guy wants 10,000 or a nice cherry one for 300 go figure. ---FEDER

  17. I found a '49 or '50 4dr, all there but the dash, I could probably own it if I wanted one, pretty cheap... it's rusty but I've seen lots worse, it still has rockers left to it, mostly the paint's gone and it's brown with surface rust. For a car in the east, it's not really that bad.

I'd love to drag it out and sell it to someone if I thought I could make a few bucks on it, but I figure a 4-door is going to be a tough sell Merc or not. That's mainly how I come up with money to put into my other cars. I mean, this thing ain't worth a fortune, maybe ask 1200-1500 and take less... clean it up and rattle can some primer on it, make it a roller would probably help.

Now if I could find the rest of the ******** Merc Woody I nabbed some bits of out to the junkyard last week..

I found this one in South Central Los Angeles 13 years ago not running but complete including skirts for 4 grand. You don't want to be in Nickerson Gardens with that much cash EVER! I love my Merc. -stick

Well guys, I'm seein some decent cars at decent prices here. I think Mickey has to be the Mercury champ though, he must be tellin people these things are radioactive or somethin' so they'll pay him to haul 'em off! I swore to my wife that I wasn't gonna jump into this one any time soon, but it's sooooo tempting, a little slice here and a cut there, man I've gotta stay focused and get some stuff done!

Bumpstick, what kind of headlight rings are you running on your Merc?

I gotta say you guys must live right because those are some excellent prices.

Around here the cheapest I see them go for is $5K , and they look like this.

In '98 I bought a partially restored 1951 2 door (rebuilt motor and automatic, blasted, painted & rebuilt frame, redone seats) for $5000. It didn't run or drive and was partially dis-***embled. The floors were solid, but the rockers/quarters were shot. All gl*** good. All parts included. I sold off everything but the body for $1500. Can't touch one of those cars around here (complete) for less than $5 grand in poor shape. At least, that's the cheapest I found.

My merc came with a set similar but more rounded looking. They were diecast though. I bought some other steel rings to weld on. The guys with the bombs like to use those rings, especially on the 49-50 Mercs because they are "tunneled" looking. I had alot of offers for them, just FYI.

There must be a reason they are so much cheaper??:D

Haven't you heard that saying? "If you chop a Merc wrong it looks like a Hudson." No just kidding, your brothers Hudson IS cool.
