Normally I wouldn't dump this classified ad here in this post but this looks like a great deal for someone. I have no relation to the seller. If I had the money it would be on a trailer behind my Ram truck. This car is located in the high desert region of Oregon which usually means no rust Really cool 1950 2 door plymouth coupe with a bunch of cool spare parts ! Someone should grab this thing. It has the "look"! https://portland.craigslist.org/clc/cto/d/bend-1950-plymouth-2door-coupe/7659227369.html
I know. Thats what I was thinking. I live about 3 hours from there and I can say it would certainly be worth the drive over and back as it would pay back dividends in the amount of time saved from not having to perform metal repair.
Hi all. Does anyone know where I can get hold of high comp heads and up rated inlet manifolds for flat head 6 motors these days? I have a 41 plymouth coupe and would like hop up the motor a bit as I can't yet afford to do a V8 swap. Thanks Thank you
They are out there, but not super easy to find. I got some of my stuff from Edgy and some from Langdon but that was some time ago... I don't think they are in biz anymore, but others have taken over. Searching the web under those names should help. https://www.moparmontana.com http://www.langdonsstovebolt.com I.M.O., Keep the flatty if you can. They are great little engines and when "souped up" can provide ample power & fun for the ol' MoPars!
new Offenhauser and Thickstun intakes are available - speedway motors, ebay, tube headers from Red's Headers, Iron ones from 12bolt.com high compression heads unfortunately new only come in spurts - two years or so at a run, from moparmontana, otherwise you'll have to hunt for or stumble across a used one I agree with Jacksmith above - the flathead six in good condition with dual intake and exhaust is a very daily driveable car
I can't see what brand the supercharger is but I have to imagine that's some fairly rare speed equipment for a straight 6 like this? Is this a 230 engine?
After some looking around for a project of my own, V8 swap is cheaper than hopping the flat 6. Not as cool but when can you go cheap AND cool?
To each his own... It's all about what blows your hair back! Besides, if you don't open the hood in public, no one will ever be the wiser, right? Go for it!!
It's hard to get a V8 to sound as good as a Mopar flat six with a split manifold an pair of dual glass packs though. If I was going V8 in a Mopar it would have to be a 318 or 360 with a torqueflite behind it. Nothing fancy but something you take a Plymouth or Dodge coupe cross country at freeway speeds for hours on end without the least bit of a fuss. That might be a seriously tight fit in some of those engine compartments as there isn't much room for the flathead six in them. Or just stick a 4.0 with a torque flite or AX 15 out of a Jeep (Mopar) and rock and roll down the road.
Yes, I agree... the engine bay is a bit snug. But if you consider the length of a 6 compared to an 8, it's pretty close.
