Let me just throw another motor/trans option out there. My 48 Plymouth coupe has a 3.9 V6 out of a Dakota with an AX 15 5 speed. Its a great step between a built up flathead 6 and a stock 318. That V6 fits very easily (is shorter then the flathead 6 so it allows movement to clear the factory steering column), has more stock HP then a built up flathead 6, has the power to run on the Interstate with the traffic, and the 5 speed makes it fun. The car is quick enough I feel like I have a fast, fun car, but not fast enough to get me in trouble (that is a good combo for me). With 3:55 rear gears and 225 75 R 15 tires pulls 17 mpg in town, and 22 mpg @ 70, while having the same reliability as a 318. The early 3.9 had a carb, the later Magnum 3.9s had 20+ more factory HP then the early versions. The down side is there are very few speed parts available.
My dads 50 Coronet. S10 subframe 350/350/8" Daily driver with well over 300k on the build. Merc grill shell, chevy bar with 19 teeth, narrowed and flipped Pontiac bumpers, I did the 59 caddy taillights when I was 16.
My chopped 50 Chrysler Windsor project. (for sale). S10 subframe, Cavalier power steering rack, slant six. I was going hard on it for a while but between the two chopped 56 F100's and the Dragmaster project I lost interest in this one.
I love your car. If you ever consider selling it, I'd love to own it. One of my favorite customs of all time.
Nads , I turned 86 Five days ago ! I will have to start thinking of a new care taker for the car soon ! Sonny
That car looks familiar not sure what part of NY your in I was in the Elmira corning area not long ago and swore I seen that sitting somewhere
This is my 49 plymouth she's very very ruff but she will be nice when it's done going to be a 2 door with a 4 inch front chop and 7 rear got it for nothing actually they paid me to take it and I bight a 50 dodge for $200 for parts
Always dug these 50 Chryslers and one showed up practically on our door step...getting delivered in a week or so...
Removing the frenched headlights on the Desoto , , going back to stock....to me looked odd..original sheet metal was underneath...
One more today...50 Desoto grille center section recessed into 49 Dodge grille opening...fit like a glove...sometimes customizing is too easy.....
Had a 49, sold it to my daughter and son in law. Loved that car. This thread has me thinking about another one.
