So, lets say you own a 53 merc w/stock running gear Flathead-8 with a standard non-overdrive 3spd transmission and you come to a stoplight only to find that your clutch pedal pushes all the way to the floor and doesn't pop back! Can't engage the clutch whatsoever. What I can see is all there from the outside, springs/linkage...ets. but before I drop this ****** can anyone help troubleshoot this for me and to what might be the dilemma? Any help is greatly appreciated Nolan
T/O bearing frozen to trans nose or maybe P/P finger pivot broke. Anyway ya cut it , time to drop the trans. Ya might pull the inspection cover off the bottom of the bellhousing and see what ya can see.
Check out the linkage , or as said above the thro-out bearing fork come off the pivot ball or broke. Dosen't sound like a very expencive fix..
JEvans-Jetmek-IbCal- Thanks fellas. Figured it wasn't anything too huge since I didn't hear/feel anything when it happened. And yes, it should be a cheap fix... Thanks!
all else fails i had this happen in my 54...the z-bar actually broke off at the bend at the top. this allowed the petal to go to the floor and not come back up...check it out. its semi noticalble too.
