49-53 merc trans to earlier flathead motor??

    Hi, i am sitting here in germany and its difficult to find parts.

    i did a research here what wasnt able to find something about my prob.

    i have a 50 merc trans and was offered a 48 ford flathead engine. is there a way to fit the late trans to the earlier engine??

    If, in fact, you have a '50 Merc trans, you have no problem. '49 , '50 and early '51 Merc trans is a direct bolt on to the earlier flathead engines. The '49 thru early '51 Merc engines used a bolt on stamped steel bell housing that replicated the back of the earlier block. Ford pickups from '48 used the same arrangement but had cast iron bells. Ford passenger from '49 up used a different trans bolt pattern which was adopted by Merc in mid '51 and continued through '64.
