I have a '49 Merc trans that has the older style, built-in bell and an adapter ring to fit the later style engine. I assume they are all like that, and your motor and trans will bolt right up.

1950 was a transition year for Merc trannys. One will fit and one will not...depends on which one you have. It's always a good idea to post a picture of your problem.
The diagrams below were taken from Van Pelt Sales, a great source of flathead info. Here's a link:

A '50 Mercury transmission will bolt right up to a '48 Ford car engine. The '48 trucks used the new 8BA block design, which would require a '48-'52 truck or '49-'50 Merc 1/2 bell.

Actually, '51 was the transition year, as some '51 Mercs used carry over '49-'50 1/2 bells and round pattern transmissions.

Yes, it will either bolt-up, OR bolt up using a 1/2 bell housing. perfect fit either way.

Are you going to use it in the Merc in your avatar? I wonder if those missing 16 cubic inches in the Ford engine make much difference to performance?

Yep, it was 1951. This pic shows the transition in bells.
