Sorry for the poor quality of the pictures.
I had to remove the top hoop from the crossmember. But before I did, the crossmember was bolted to jig and the bottom tube was welded in place. The open holes after the hoop was removed were capped off. The bottom tube is 1/8 wall DOM tubing.

  2. So judging from that am I correct that the transmission mount mounting surface on trans should fall between a 1/2" to 1" below the main floor boards?

No sir, The transmission mount plate is about 5 1/2-6 inches below the floor pans.
The crossmember bolts in where the factory unit is riveted in, and sits about the same distance from the floors. The issue I was addressing is that it will not clear a standard 3 0r 4 speed with a side mounted shifter. When I ordered mine (back in 2012... and with the motor mounts) from Waldon, he specifically told me it would only work with an automatic or Tremec style transmission. I knew I could modify it without sacrificing the strength.

Thank you for the pictures. I like the changes you made to yours. I'll probably have to do the same thing to mine but I'm ok with that. I'm sure it's still more ridged than the factory crossmember and it may give me some more room for exhaust.
