hey..I was wondering if anyone has installed the dual system from National Chevy Assoc.?? I think it's @ $185 plus lines..is it worth it, or are there jnukyard recipes for the same result??? thanks
You can get a similar set up from ECI http://www.ecihotrodbrakes.com/master_cylinder_systems.html You can use a mustang or early chevy truck master with it. If you are going to change the master I would suggest replacing all of your lines if they are old and splitting the system front/rear instead of the original set up. I used this set up as have several others here. Bill
i use the brake set up from walton fabrication.its easy to install only took about an hour.heres a link. http://www.waltonfabrication.com/dh/1001.htm
I put in a late-model (probably 'A' body, CRS syndrome) pedal and master in a '51. Welded up the factory hole there, put in two pieces of angle bolted through the pedal/master mount and running from top of firewall to the floor kick (for strength, which worked very, very well). This didn't cost much (car was nearly free), and wasn't bolt-in, (it weren't hard, either) but the brakes on that car were indistiguishable from a late-model, stopping with little effort and able to lock at will. Which is decidedly different than the aftermarket setup I used in a '46 Ford - it wouldn't lock the wheels if Hulk Hogan were pressing the pedal, and the power booster was a joke; it rusted up fast, because the manufacturer decided that we don't drive our street rods in bad weather. I say use junkyard parts, the manufacturers of those tested in all weather, and under very severe service as well. Cosmo P.S. I also tied the pedal assy to the dash, just like GM did. It helps strength a lot.
I have the NCA kit on my '53 wagon. I can't tell you how well it works, since the car won't be on the road again until spring, but it was fairly straightforward to install. You have to remove and gut the factory master cylinder. The new master mounts behind and hooks to the pedal with a long rod run through the stock master. Everything went together well, but I modified the rear brake line, so I can't tell you how well that would have mounted up. Their instructions are awful, but overall the kit's pretty nice.
