so the 49-54 Chevy car frames sit a few inches lower than the body, my question is has anybody raised the k member and still ran the original master cylinder or pix of what you've guys done? Thanx
My question would be: Why? Is this not low enough? 20130403_134108 by gimpyshotrods posted May 26, 2014 at 10:34 PM
I'm hoping to go 4 inches off the ground but don't want the frame to low, yep the the things we do to ride low
Yes, there obviously is a big c-notch on the rear. This has a Mustang II front end, with 2" drop spindles. The K-member was only modified in the very middle, to make the mount for the transmission.
I got my notch out of the way ran trailing arms (trucks ones to ive read your dislikes for the solids one) just trying to figure out the front. I know I will have to raise my 6 cylinder to clear the oil pan. but right now my front end is 6 inches off the ground with the k member around 4. i want to get the front down to 4 inches
I am not sure that low is possible in the front, with the stock suspension, without using dropped uprights.
If you step your lower A arms you will get 2" more of drop bringing you down to 4". You will need to notch your frame slightly for the tie rods. I cut out all my cross member and installed a 2"x4" cross member which sits flush with the bottom of the frame. This then forced me to come up with something different for the master cylinder....I tack welded the arms in place so I could then locate my new master in the correct locations. A few holes in the frame to mount it and its nice and tucked.
