Technical 49-54 chevy spindles on a 48 issue

Bolted on a 51 chevy car spindle/upright on my 48 chevy sedan and the turning radius looks way less when turning to the left. Hits the stops way sooner than the old orignal one. Do people grind off some of the stop when putting these on? The upright is for the left side I double checked the #
I hope the pictures explains it the last one is the other side
