I mean, what else would You need in order to stand out in today´s traffic among all the plastic, monochromatic nippondensos out there? Forget "Shaving", "Flames", "flat black with flake roof" or whatever You´re now contemplating or suggested You do. Low rent. What is it with this seemingly recommended "shaving" -business anyway? I mean, do people do that because they genuinely feel that improves on something or do they just do that for the sake of "shaving" something because they have to in order to prove something to somebody or fit in somewhere...? Only reason I´d get into something like that was if I had missing trim pieces on an otherwise sound vehicle of a nice, obscure bodystyle. If it were mine I´d concentrate on the mechanicals, make it ride and handle the way I wanted, and enjoy the fruit of Harley Earl´s superior eye for design to it´s fullest.
It being Your car, however, I suggest you do whatever You want with it, as long as it´s thought through all the way, instead of dumping a ton of work and expenses into bastardising a 60-yo surviving vehicle that You´re gonna hate looking at six months later, just because someone else told You this is something You need to do...

Totally agree with this old post from Sauli. To carve up one of these Harley Earl classics is a travesty & is just stupid. I have a 49 Super Sedanet in original condion & unrestored other than tires, tune up, replaced interior as close to original as possible, etc. It's beautiful. California should pay me to drive this on the road instead of the other way around. I'm beautifying America every time I take it out of the garage.
