Just trying to verify some info for this swap. I have a complete 292 out of a 67 C20 including the 4spd(SM465 I believe) that is going in my 49 3100. It currently has a 235 with a SM420. From what I've researched, am I correct that I should be able to use the bellhousing from the 292 to bolt to the SM420? The truck still has the original torque tube rear. I plan on doing an open driveline down the road, just not to that point yet. If that will work are there any other parts that would need to be changed with the trans? I already have the motor mount issue covered.
its just a taller block and i am sure you ll the the hood , with no problem was about to mention the motor mount or support , but it seems that you have that covered besides the fuel line(s)
Isn’t the hub register on the 420 smaller than the 465? I picked up an older iron bell that someone tried to put a 465 on that’s didn’t fit. Hub center too small on the bell. The iron bell from the 292 should bolt in place on the chassis the same as the original bell did But you said you was keeping the closed DS The 292 is a little longer but it’s been done several times. There’s supposed to be some side mounts out there for this swap but the passenger side 292 mount is different than the 230-250. Just build ya some. It ain’t rocket surgery
I think that changing the bellhousing will require a crossmember change as well. It's been quite a few years since I was involved with one.
