ahhhhh i read that all wrong now i understand the sarcasm sorry im not up to your perfect standards and made a spelling mistake hudson
I think that this might go a long way towards explaining the above. Sarchasm : The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it. BB
I could not agree more. I love seeing cars that you have to study, to figure out what they started life as. Keep up the good work, Brian.
I definately agree with you on adding the appletons! Also, I have just been studying your pictures more and the only thing I could suggest is possible a skirt treatment! Maybe something longer with more shape to flow a bit better? Again man, this car kicks ***!
Don't listen to any of them Brian. You got the right idea and vision and talent to make it happen. Go with the spots! I can't wait to see this car again. I've seen it in person 5 or 6 time and I am amazed everytime!
I love it when everyone chimes in on how you should build something, especially when you never asked them in the first place. Glad to see it's back with you Brian, no one else would be able to finish the car and do it justice.
It's funny that you say that,B***fire! Two guys a the Suede Palace kept argueing with me that it was a Mercury with a Chevy roof on it! I told them what B*** did,but they wouldn't believe me,and told me I didn't know what I was talking about. WHATEVER! LOL!!!
Funny, that is actually one of the next mods I'd planned for the car....to extend the front of the skirts downward about an inch and a half, and the rear about a half inch so that the bottom of the skirt has the same line as the bottom of the quarter. Eventually, the skirts will be gapped to the quarter so that there isn't as much of a noticeable line. Skirts will have to wait a bit though, I've got to concentrate on more basic mechanicals for now. Here are some shots of the grille surround and floater bar as promised. As I posted before, I used Willys Aero, Henry J, and '51 Ford parts to make the floater bar. I mocked them up in the grille surround to set the width that I thought would look best... I ended up using two '51 Ford grille centers for the ribs on the rear edge of the floater. It's a little detail that really isn't all that noticeable, but it helps tie the front of the car to the sides (scoops in particular) and makes the car a more cohesive design. The center of the Willys Aero bar ended up as the center of the floater, with the Henry J pieces becoming the rest of the leading edge. Here you can see one of the '51 Ford pieces before grinding and t*******. Welding was a slow tedious process, because warpage had to be kept to an absolute minimum.. Here it is nearly completed.... It looks like it could have been taken from some non-descript '50s car, but it's actually pieces of grilles from 4 different cars! The grille surround was something that I had a difficult time making a decision on for some time. I thought that the factory shape of the '49-50 Merc surround was pretty appealing, but I also liked the way the Ayalas and Barris's used a second surround on the bottom of some of their more famous custom Mercs. For example, the Bettencourt Mercury has a treatment using two surrounds with the bottom one flipped. I liked the look, but I wanted a little larger opening for the grille bar. I decided that I didn't want to use an entire surround across the width of the car, but instead just the corners to create a more oval opening than the factory Merc 'horseshoe' shape. In the pic below, you can see that the p***enger side has already been welded, and the driver's side is still factory Merc... The gravel shield got molded to the fenders and surround in the process. I plan on filling the factory recesses in it to make it smooth. Slingin' some lead.... I haven't leaded the driver's side yet, but here's the front end with the surround all welded up, and the floater bar installed... I also re-rounded the hood corners as I was doing the surround and got the hood to fit a lot better. The parking lights sit behind the leading edge of the headlight rings by about an inch, and the peak of the hood is even with the center peak of the floater bar. The front end treatment is nearly finished now. I still need to finish the gravel shield and part of the hood, and shave the bumper bolts, but that's about it. Thanks for following along with me....I'll try to do another update in the near future.
Everytime I see one of your updates, I am blown away. Your execution, design, and attention to detail are amazing, yet the balance is the most impressive attribute. While the list of changes would seem over the top, this car looks incredibly perfect. Incredible, f'ing amazing!
Ridiculous. I listed this car as one of my dream cars on another thread, and for good reason. Nice Work B***!!
I find myself going back and looking at this post over and over again. The flow is right on. It looks like the car should have always been built like this. Nothing looks added on.
