Can anyone please tell me if the bottom of the frame rails, or the rocker panels sit closer to the ground? In other words if you were to lay a straight edge perpendicularly across the bottom of the frame rails would the rocker panels be above or below the top of the straight edge? I have a the car but the sheet metal is in such bad shape that I don't want to rely on it as a gauge of what should be. Thanks in advance, Jon
Frame rails. I had a '49 Fleetline in high school back in the 50's, and there was this one speed bump that they put in the parking lot entrance - My frame was nice and shiney all the time! And, no, it didn't have air bags.
The frame on all 49 to 52 chevy cars are lower than the rockers in a stock body. You have suspension front and rear as well as cross members. Channel the body over the frame if you want it to drop directly on the pavement, increadable amount of work!! Could use lowering blocks rear, drop spindles front. heep and easely done little effect on the stability of the car.
Here you go. Maybe this will help with my question. I need to be sure when completely aired out the frame sits just lower than the rockers. Everything is currently tack welded with the exception of the front suspension. I still have the ability adjust the height of the rear bag mounts on the notches. Before I final weld, it seemed like it would be worth asking. I do have **** for brains, so I need to use extreme caution in these areas...........
