can vary depending on factors like previous modifications or restoration work.
most of them should have a hole like that

  6. If it’s the same as my 50 that’s a big NOPE !

no hole for sending unit access , unless some previous owner was slightly smarter and slightly Hamb fisted and created one .

Nope, just make your own hole and make it easy for yourself. I did it with both of my cars. It's a lot less work than dropping the tank. I did it first in the Hard Top, when the new Auto Meter sending unit worked intermittently. I had to replace it with a replacement.

  8. The tanks were so easy to drop. I’m guessing GM saved a bunch of Money not doing a hole

thanks for the info. guys guess I.ll drop the tank and cut one in while the tank is out of the way and I can see exactly where it should be to bad there is not a diagram to show where to cut the hole and not drop the tank

  10. I wouldn't want to make sparks cutting a hole above a gas tank that's still mounted!!!

Dropping the tank out of my '53 wasn't a big deal; in fact, it has a 1/8 pipe plug in the bottom that allows you to drain it first.

While you’re at it replace the feed line to the carb with a bigger line. I believe the early 6’s had a 1/4”. A 5/16” will feed any V8 or built 6.
