was thinking, if i rewire my gauges will they work? the car sat for a very long time and is currently sitting in storage it's all original wiring and i tore alot of it out because it was getting stiff and cracking, but i dont want to waste my money buying all new wiring if i have to buy gauges to, if that's the case i'll just buy gauges and wiring from a different car and rig it myself.
are you rewiring it for 6 or 12V???? if you are going 12v I'm pretty sure you will have to wire the gauges with a resistor wire to step the voltage down to 6v....
I think it probaly has mechanical oil pressure and temp any way.Tear all that old **** out and put a wiring kit in it you'll be glad you did.
Oil pressure is mechanical for sure. Should be no reason for them not to work unless they're not hooked up, or were broken anyways.
true about mechanical with the exception of the fuel gauge....oh and you'll have to switch the dash bulbs to 12v unless you step the voltage down, bulbs will be a lot simpler.....Unless the car is to be kept with an original appearance I'd look into aftermarket gauges or a set from a later model car or truck and go for the custom look..(i.e Corvair, vega, monza)..Below is a pic of a set of gauges from a corvair, Just my 0.02 worth... I have an EZ wiring harness for my 40, very simple to install, every wire is marked end to end what it is plus color coded....One of these harnesses can be installed in an evening....I can't wait til my car is at the point I'm ready to wire it.....probably a year or two at this rate...
