not too sure about a dodge but a 49 ford has leaf springs in the front.

Not up on Dodge at all, but very likely it will be extra wide compared to a stock A axle.
Leaf mounted axles have been used before by cleaning up or removing the U bolt mounting areas and welding on clevis or 4 bar brackets.
It would have to be in really nice shape, with excellent kingpins to make it worthwhile though. I don't think I'd spend the bucks to rebuild something I had to weld up to use in the first place...
What about brakes and wheels? Will they work with what you want to use in the back?

tapered parallel leaf springs...not much more needs to be said, they're ugly as sin and they really can't be switched to transverse mount unless you've got hours of time into cutting it apart, smoothing it out and welding new brackets on, and even then they're still ugly...the juice brakes are nice to have and those axles work great under a 40's or 50's gasser...I say pick it up and save it for a later full fendered gasser project, don't let it go to the scrapyard but it's not worth trying to use on an early hot rod style car...
