got the ole 49 f1 home this afternoon, it wasn't seized up to tight and I got it to turn over by hand useing the fan, after liberally soaking the cylinders with penetrating oil and turning it over more I hooked a battery up and spun it over a bunch squirting oil in and setting ever 1/2 dozen revolutions and I only got compression in 3 cylinders after about an hour, any chance them other cylinders are gonna start to work? I'm gonna get some batteries for the camera and post some pics tomorrow
couple of other questions, when I turn it over by hand the starter looks like its turning as well is it supposed to? I'd think not but I don't know how them flatheads work, to remove the starter it looks like I have to take to 3/8 or 5/16 bolts off the shaft one to remove some big spring and the other on the back side of the spring to be able to remove the shaft thru the housing where do I find the engine ID number? I scraped along the sides of the intake on the block and can't seem to find any numbers, it's supposed to be a 52 or 53 mercury engine
You've probably got some valves that are stuck open so no compression on those cylinders. Other than removing the heads to free up the valves maybe someone else here has some magic formula. Frank
