i pick up a 49-53 ford flathead today...i got it running and runs like a champ...i was wondering what something like this is worth?
Whatever some one is willing to pay. I've sold bare blocks for $700+ but couldn't give away good runners....depends on the demand at the time.
If it's a good block (not cracked), I can see getting ~$700 for it... A good block completely rebuilt, somewhere around ~$2000.
I just paid $150 for a block that "looks" good. Jury is still out till I get it hot tanked and magnafluxed. And this is New England where a crack-free block is pretty rare. Before the economy tanked that probably would have been $450. Running is usually around $500-$1K
did you ruun it with coolant?..what is the oil pressure?...did you do a cold and hot compression test?...i sold my good running 49' flatty with trans for..well i guess i gave it away...in between jobs had a house payment to make.. <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="if(typeof(jsCall)=='function'){jsCall();}else{setTimeout('jsCall()',500);}" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
nah i pulled it from a field on a 46 ford rolling chasis and the guy that had wanted to trade a truck for it...that i had...so i did and we hooked up a battery and threw some gas in the carb and she fired up no smoke sounds crazy bad***...he said that his grandpa was a flattie machanic and him and his dad are machanic's too...so i trust him
Ah, runs like a champ AND sounds crazy bad***..Probably don't smoke cause no oil in it...I trust him too..
yea sure dude....oh and have u heard the flattie run?...prolly not...oh btw it does have oil in it....
I paid $600 for my 53 merc flathead, and that was with the previous owner not knowing if it ran or not but was told it was rebuilt when he got it. I had it running after a little while and now had it and ran it in my hotrod for over a year. It gets so many compliments at shows and cruising around town.Wouldn't trade it for any other engine. Good luck with it!
it didnt run long enough to get oil up into the top of the block to smoke. . . threads like this one are usually fishing expeditions to find a buyer for what someone wants to sell
