Ok, so here's the deal. I recently purchased a disc brake conversion kit, but it does not have the rotors with it. The kit allows you to use disc brakes with stock spindles and stock steering arms on the 49. I was told it was this kit http://www.ecklersearlychevy.com/chevy-disc-brake-kit-front-for-stock-spindles-1949-1954.html So, without rotors, I started trying to find the right rotors. A quick call to ECI, and Ralph told me there kit was the first on the market and that the Eckler's kit was a copy of their kit http://ecihotrodbrakes.com/early_chevy_discbrake_conversions.html ECI said that the kits out there use the 70-77 Camaro/Firebird rotors and calipers. Ralph at ECI also told me that I needed to get an a13 bearing and a race - which is an inner bearing from a 74-78 Mustang 2, and that I need to knock the race out of camaro hub, & put new race in. The kit I have (minus the rotors) has an inner and outer bearing set... I am at work right now, so I cannot go through the box, but it does have the adapter below. So my question, does all this sound right? I did call Eckler's to see if they have the rotors for their kit in stock, they are back ordered and have a mid-October date on them to get them from their supplier (I don't want to wait that long) thoughts?
Had to come home... waiting on an appliance repair guy to get here to look at my 6 month old dishwasher... grr curiosity is killing me, so I went and grabbed a box of parts... I have two outer wheel bearings, with races... the package says outer wheel bearing w/race, front, roller bearing hub conversion,55-57 and sticker on side says LM11949/10, which a simple google search returns a timken bearing number... now the big question would be, are the rotors for a 70-77 camaro the right ones? Anyone have an opinion?
Yes, they are right. I have the ECI kit for a '46 1/2 ton truck axle. Uses pretty much the same components and it uses rotors and calipers for the '70-'77 Camaro/Firebird like you said.
Thanks Pila for the reply... sets my mind at ease and it makes it 1000 times easier to locate parts. I would rather know what components are in the kits on my ride so I can buy replacement parts locally... sucks on having to wait on parts for weeks, even months
I have a 49 style line deluxe I wanna do disk conversion on been looking at kits in your kit was there a proportioning valve or a booster or master cylin if not what did you use ? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
there are several ways to upgrade to a newer power booster... get yourself a disc to disc conversion and 2 residual pressure valves, a 10 psi RPV for the rear (which are drum), and a 2PSI for the front circuit... should not need a prop valve I went with a under the floor setup, which is a disc/disc corvette style master and booster, with a remote fill cap.
