I'm starting to get REALLY aggravated about the brakes on this car. So here is my problem ,I put a new rear wheel cylender on the rear which went well but it keeps leaking between the br*** block and wheel cylender.I put new copper washers still leaks went to the parts store got more copper washers still leaks. What I did notice is that the new wheel cylender doesn't have the little grooves in it like the old one and the br*** blocks has the little grooves to.Has anyone had this problem ? I really don't know what to do next.........OH HOW I HATE BRAKES!!!!!
Is the copper washer sealing a banjo type of thing? If so, you may need to lap the surface a bit with fine sandpaper on a flat surface. Also, heat one of the copper washers up until you see a dark red color then let it cool. Clean it with an abrasive pad. This anneals the copper and makes it more able to conform to the surfaces. Another likelihood is that the cylinder is cracked.
Its Ok to use the old copper washer the new ones don't seat as well as the older ones do, and as Walker said clean it up, I use a file and touch them up with that.
Maybe you ended up with a copper coated steel washer vs a real copper washer? Happened to me before with copper washers for my oil drain plate on a vw.
Thanks for the reply guys, I did heat the new washers up, and will try it this weekend.I hope that will do the trick. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
