Ok gents, as the ***le states, I need to do a clutch adjustment on my late fathers 49 ford coupe powered by an 8ba. I also may need some shift linkage bushings if they are made. Last time I drove the car, it was being difficult to get into 1st or reverse. So that tells me I need to adjust the clutch. How do I do that on this car? Any advice? Please and thank you. Picture of the shoebox for attention. Last but not least, MERRYCHRISTMAS 20251026_093806.jpg

  3. As Mark stated will adjust the clutch. The shift bushings are available from Eckler's as a Kit. Dennis Carpenter may also have them.

Sounds like linkage. Is the shifter sloppy?

The shifter itself isn't, but linkage is iffy. I try to keep it all greased as it should be. It's been fi e any other time I drove it, but this last time it started acting weird

You may need to adjust clutch pedal free play. But there may be other issues to consider. Is the car only driven infrequently or spending much of its time in storage? If so, at idle the clutch disk may not be floating freely on the splines of the clutch gear and still slightly engaging the flywheel even when the pedal is fully depressed. The clutch gear splines can get fouled with dirt, rust and hardened grease. This will make it hard to shift into low or reverse, or possibly other gears as well. Being driven more regularly may help relieve the problem, at least temporarily. And it won't hurt any to replace and lube any bushings in the shifter and clutch linkages.

If its nice out, I drive it. Shifts into 2nd and 3rd perfectly fine. I dont believe my dad ever adjusted the clutch ever since he bought it in 2015.
