Lex- Your truck is coming along fabulously. Very nice work. WcSteve, nice side shot of yours there too. Sleeper and the bed are really cool. Love the tandems too
Thanks guys, I had been thinking about making a pattern and having a pair cast so this turned out an easy solution and I think they look great.
Life has been getting in the way a little but I've been putzing away at my COE all the while....BUT a couple days ago I ordered up the steel for the framework of the rear bodywork. I will be using alloy sheet for the panels and Lincoln zephyr inspired rear fenders. I will have to make a couple timber bucks to make them. To say I'm excited about finally getting to this stage...well, Im sure you understand. Hopefully ill have some pics in a few weeks
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that. I ordered the timber for the floor today and scored a nice big hardwood stump for shrinking and stretching. Let the fun begin......
much as I hate to admit to it, I have the sickness...... I bought a future project, a 1933 Chevy roadster ute. Its been sitting in a guys makeshift shed for nearly 30 years and covered in junk, and I got it for a real good price.
Made most of the structure for the bed of my project, so now I can go ahead and make the panels and rear fenders. The structure was following guidelines required by Australian design rules and the engineer who will ultimately certify the the truck. My eldest son has offered to help me build the Art Deco Lincoln style fenders so they will be beautiful I'm sure Look him up ...Rusties patch and panel on Facebook He's currently building an A coupe from scratch. So slow but steady progress, but at least I'm not going backwards. Feels like it sometimes.
Not any where near as much done as I'd like, but progress is progress I guess. I must admit I have bought a lot of parts lately, so that's progress too. Trying to get the exhaust system finished so I can then make and finish the rear panel, pan area. I plan to run the pipes thru it. Social distancing etc means construction of the rear fenders may take a little longer, my son lives in another state and we can't cross state borders at present. But I might just send him a un***embled Buck. Once I have a little more done I build some rear running boards to match the short fronts.
I sometimes forget that we can put many many hours into things, then stand back and feel like we haven't achieved all that much. so yeah, any progress is good. Cat convertors arrived today so I can start to go ahead with the exhaust once the 3 inch stainless pipe I ordered comes in, next week I hope. Then probably fuel pump, filter and feed and return lines to the tank. Always more to do. But, hopefully soonish I can pull the whole thing apart and paint/ detail everything and re***emble it for the last time. Then onto wiring, which oddly I really enjoy doing.
either a electric fan controlled by the ecu and or some some discreet ducting built into the bodywork, maybe both. No room up the front for the intercooler, believe me I tried....
made a fair bit of progress lately, exhaust is done apart from final tips, rear brakes are fully rebuilt and handbrake cables etc all hooked up, turbos to intercooler piping done, timber boards are now ready to fit after a trip through a thicknesser, made some more of the rear bodywork, bought a new intake manifold etc etc.......
I really appreciate that, its a long road when I'm doing everything myself but I'm finally starting to feel like I'm getting somewhere.......
I certainly understand. Living in same city for 50 years, having a Muffler shop for 32 of those years. I had older buddies with all kinds of talents. Then moving to Arizona, I was "on my own." Almost all of My older friends have either p***ed away or lost interest / motivation. It becomes lonely in the garage, without a talented third hand.
We live in a small country town so I often have to rely on buying parts/materials online. That slows progress down some, gotta plan ahead all the time. Lots of hotrods in town, mostly traditional style cars. they mostly stick to themselves and my build doesn't fit in anyway. So, ill just keep on going, luckily my wife is pretty talented and always ready to help. what more does a man need. And, yeah, above ground and getting stuff done.
Sorry about the double up on the pics, can't seem to fix it. Anyway, some more panels made and started on the boards, with a epoxy resin finish. Lots more work on them to come I'm sure. Found a source for 17 inch rims for the rear, gonna order them soon. Ive got some garden remodelling going on also, so had to slow up on the truck a little, and I thought car stuff was a spendy before.........
Thanks, I only have a cheap, small bead roller so that limits things a bit. Im going to paint the new panels to match the paint on the cab so they don't have to be perfect. Looks like I will do the long rear running boards myself soon, I was having them made because of the limitations of my beadroller. But, they haven't been done and I gave him the sample back in March. Oh well. Trying to pretty much build the whole thing before blowing it apart to finish weld and paint and then re***emble for the last time. Im sure looking forward to that.
