Hey Ian... looks like the trunk frame is welded to the frame? won't it be tough to take it off the frame later on? Or will it crack from movement? Looks great btw!

HAHA!! Thanx bro!! If you were closer i'd do it!!

Hey man! Yes the frame is tacked to the frame and it'll be fine. The owner told me to go ahead and weld the gas tank frame to the frame so i did!!! This body will NEVER be off this frame, And if it needs to there are 5 spots that need to be cut or ground down. I know it would be better to have the body mounts mounted to the gas tank frame for absorption, but this is what it is. Im just trying to help to get this car a step forward on a freebie!!
    Thanx bro!!

    ian,

first off very nice work so far i really like the install and the new trunk pans. my only concern is the pans being welded to the frame...... now i know this is a freebie for a buddy and this is the way he wanted it but it is not a good idea too mount it this way. since the rest of the car is rubber mounted, just driving the car down the road will eventually tear the floors right out of the car, and it will not take long to do. it will save you and your buddy much grief if you can talk him into bolting the floors down rather than welding again not knocking your work just a little help from a fellow hamber. keep up the good work man

Good call!! Thanx RC!! I'll mount some tabs at the bottom of small posts tomorrow and put thick rubber in between the frame and the tabs!! Actually pretty simple stuff... Should have done that in the first place since i have all the stuff in the garage!!:(

I started on the back seat panel late today and my work will be done after i finish the area around the top bars. I'm passing the puck to somebody else for the rest of the floors. Long story short..... somebody else did some work on the front floors and it will be a big job to do them over as they're really messed up and that also includes the front body mounts. Got other stuff going on early next week..... A Chevy coupe chop!!!

Those are spot welds, not an actual bead. Just because they flow together and are "cherry red" and getting some penetration, doesn't mean you have a strong individual bead. Your weld should have a nice strength vein down the middle as each weld blends together. Looks like you are simply buzzing (pulsing) the welds and more concerned with how pretty they look. How do you know your welds are strong? Have you strength tested them? I like to lay a continuous bead at least 4-6" in length and then the next...to control warpage but still maintain proper penetration. It seems like you are pretty snappy to defend your welds, while at the same time admitting you are new at doing it??? Whether you're building a cruiser or dragracer, your frame/suspension welds should be superior in strength.

^^^ My thoughts exactly. The fab work looks great, but you should be more focused on a proper weld bead for strength and penetration. You can still do a proper weld and have them look great. Not knocking your work at all, but you said you're new too welding so just take all criticism constructively!

I understand, I'm definitely open to constructive criticism. I have shown how i weld my suspension parts to a friend and he's a VERY well respected member here on the HAMB and what i'm doing i'm told is very safe and i should not worry about KILLING somebody!!

    I'm done!!

I'm not bein a dick...I just think it's silly to post things on here that you KNOW are not done correctly...and then people replying "nice fab work" over and over...what is your point in doing that?? Do it right, especially when you know you're not doing it right...I just don't understand your reasoning...nor do I care anymore...you are way too defensive pal...jeezus...remind me to not look at any of the shit you post anymore...you seem to know IT ALL.

There's definitely better ways to tell somebody they're doing something wrong rather than humiliate them you could learn something from somebody like CAFEKID. What? Did you really think i was just gonna be nice to you?? You fucking douchebag!! What the fuck have you done that's so good or ANYTHING at all, if you have you're definitely not sharing !
