There’s a 49 Hudson Commodore on Craigslist in Eastern Tennessee not far from me. Will a Hudson expert be able to answer my question? Is the head and intake manifold shown in the attached picture aluminum? It looks like it to me. If I am correct, is that stock or aftermarket? I’m not interested in buying the car, just want to learn more. Were hop-up parts available for Hudsons back in the day? Thanks.
They did make aluminum heads factory but they would likely be paired with the dual carb intake,I think. Came on the Hornets
I don't know what the after market had for Hudsons but the company was performance oriented and produced aluminum heads, twin carb manifolds etc. The Hudson Hornets and the 7X engines were legendary in their day
Could be an aluminum head, could be silver paint. I think the water outlet and intake were iron...so....paint is more likely.
A 49 wouldn’t have been a 308. It would have been a 262. I’ve never seen an aluminum intake manifold for them. I’ve got a Twin H intake manifold and mine is cast iron I believe. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
also OEM heads usually had the displacement cast into them, in large easy to read numbers....see if you can get some better pictures.
I think a company called Clifford Performance (had a different name earlier) made lots of stuff for Hudsons. They got over 300hp out of a 308 flat six Hudson many years ago
hornets dominated stock car racing in the early '50s. the "twin-h" setup was hot. the factory even had a high-nickel race block, which i think was the "7X."
49-50 Hudson did have an aluminum intake. And there are a few different stock aluminum heads. I have a few of them on the shelf.
The intake is definitely stock. The head on the narrow block 262 Cu in engine could be aluminum too. Both of those items will polish and add bling under the hood. The intake will fit all 232/262/308 engines. The intake is for a 2BBL carb. A friend uses one of those intakes with a pull through turbo on his built 308.
