My car overheated one day and when i popped the hood to have a look i saw the (stock) carb was gushing out gas. I have an electric fuel pump and shut it off. let it cool down and turned it on, still gushing out gas, who knows when this started,
anyone know why this happens? I'm really not in the mood to blow up my car or motor. I'm gonna change the motor and everything but for now i want to keep driving her.

    Whoa, man!

What kind of PSI is that electric pump putting out? Much more than 3 - 4 PSI and the only thing you'll be changing the motor into is a pile of charred rubble, along with the car! LOL! :D

If you can regulate the pressure, drop it down to 1.5-2#. You might want to have a look inside and see what kind of shape your float is in.

Comments re: pressure are correct. Shouldn't be more than a couple of pounds. If it's a Stromberg carb, the problem could be a stuck float, which is common. Just unscrew the top, tap the float a couple times with your finger, and put it back together.

  5. Ya probably have way too much pressure on the old carb! Had the same problem on my '36 Ford several years back. Went to NAPA and got the little in line, and adjustable, regulator and put it close to where the fuel line emerges up on the firewall. Adjusted it down to about 1.5-2 lbs. Attached with rubber gas hoses and clamps - easy and it works. Also, as I have posted before, be sure to get a fire extinguisher and keep it in the car. I made that mistake once before too and lost all the wiring, radiator, paint and etc. from a fuel leak.....

Yep. Start at 1.5 and work your way up. When you get to 3-4 PSI, you're too high, back 'er off.

There's no set pressure - the goal is to feed the carb as little fuel as you can to keep it running, without starving it when you goose it. ;)
