hey im getting a 49 plymouth 2dr. hardtop does anyone know where to get parts at a good price? i need to rebuild the engine but thats nothing. i would like to know of places just incase anything comes up? im in so. ca. thanks guys
If Plymouth made a hardtop in '49, it'd be news to me. I'm guessing you have a coupe or possibly a sedan. Anyway, these are wonderful cars and running gear parts aren't too hard to get for the most part. Vintage Power Wagons has anything you could probably ever need, engine-wise. Check out P15-D24.com for more info, parts sources and other fans of these cars. They're a tight group of good guys.
they dont make a 49 hardtop they didnt come to 1951 besure to check the vin and see if its a motor vin or body.
I use Roberts Motors 17 Prospect st. West Newbury M*** 01985 1 800 231 3180 most of thier stuff is pretty good , and they know these cars real good.
I just finished a 49 Special Deluxe. PM me as I have a bunch of parts hanging around. I have a web album on picasa You can search there, I can not pull up the link right now.
Always anxious to see MoPar talk!! I was at a garage sale last year and the guy had a 2-dr hardtop Plymouth that he said was ***led as a 50, and that a few were done in late 1950. I thought 51 was the first as well. Just p***ing along what the dude told me. Good luck with the 49, Kanter Bros., Andy Bernbaum auto parts both have a lot of mopar stuff!!-Sololobo
check the cl***ifieds at P15 - D24 for parts and pieces. And in my considered opinion doing business with andy burnedbomb is an activity of last resort. Engine parts available at very reasonable prices from Terrel Machine in Texas. No site number in Hemmings, and Egge in Cali. VPW as mentioned is good also.
there it is. i am rebuilding the engine now and then the fun of body work and shaving and frenching will begin.
I think the best advice I can give you on getting the best prices is this: #1 Get yourself a parts list book. I think there's on on ebay right now. This way you will know the part numbers for part s you are looking for. Write the numbers down and bring them with you to swap meets. Some places like valley vintage (http://www.vvap.com) have great prices but you need to know the part numbers when you order. You can search with part numbers on ebay, this increases your chances of finding parts that the seller didn't know what they went to or they are listing them for a different car but they will work on yours (Just don't bid on the parts that I'm bidding on!). #2 Buy parts in groups if possible and shop around. For example: all your suspension parts (tie rods, control arm bars & bushings), it ****s getting one part here and one part there all in different levels of quality. Factor in shipping too. #3 If you see someone selling a bunch of Mopar parts ask them if they have anything for your car. If had vendors say that they do, but they didn't bring it because they didn't think anyone would be interested. #4 Ask for parts on the HAMB, 49plymouth.com and the p15-d24 site. #5 Salvage yards as a last resort.
thanks alot man i have built alot of cars but nothing this old yet and this is only my second plymouth. but i have found that i can get alot of parts at my local kragen part store not all that cheap but atleast i can get them there.
My VERY first car was a 49 Plymouth 2 door sedan, back in '62.........back when they weren't COOL. Paid $10 for it and $15 to tow it home. Damn, them were the days........
i traded a 70 nova i had for this one. the engine is at a machine shop getting 2 sleeves put in it then im going to rebuild it. but its all around a all together car. im thinking of going a total traditional 50's style but havent decited yet. but will keep u guys posted on pics as the car comes along. thanks again for all the kind words and help.
Nice lookin' ride. Welcome to the HAMB! Hmm, I've seen quite a few new threads lately on 49-50 Plymouths. Maybe I ought to keep mine... Don't necessarily want to sell it, but I need the room.
They are open. I ordered brake shoes from them last week. Call them there is no website. Im at work right now so not sure of the #. When I get home if it is not posted already I will post it.
Weird, got that info at p15-d12. Anyway, that's great news! http://www.loganbanner.com/articles/2008/04/07/obituaries/obit03.txt
Plydo # (304) 475-3245 I heard they we closed also because of the owner but I think that his family or something is still running it at least part time. Worth a shot to try them really nice people and excellent customer service.
dude you brought a tear to my eye. catch your twin brother here: http://picasaweb.google.com/CrusinDuck/Magoo
lol thanks man i really love ur car. how hard was it to weld the front fenders to make them one piece? how hard was it to mold the rear fenders??
i need some help!!!!!! on my 49 plymouth the trim on the front fenders i would like to take off but the fenders are 3 pieces. and when i took the trim off there is a big offset along the bottom of the trim. can anyone give me some advice on how to mold these 3 pieces to make it one smooth fender???
There's a place in Arlington Texas called Anitique Auto Supply (can find it on google). He has a whole warehouse of parts, two mini-storage bays of Dodge, Plymouth, and Chrysler. If you have a part number he can probably pull it for you.
You can also find intake, valve covers, cast iron headers, HEI at Langdon Stovebolts. http://www.stoveboltengineco.com/ Here is my 53 model with OD for my 48 Plymouth coupe with lots of Langdon parts.
Here is my 49 Plymouth hardtop....... thanks to choprods. I took off my trim too. Welded up the top to the bottom and skim coat of filler and left a smooth trasition for a different look. Look closely.
