Before I go and buy doors for my '49, whats the interchangability between the different models of '49 Pontiacs? Does the model screw up the ability to swap parts with a Chebby? Is there anywhere that carries body panels for it? And, is the wide strip of metal that runs up the middle of the hood and trunk stainless or ? Its been painted over and Id like to bring it back out. We picked this one up not too long ago, were going to be retro-fitting it to a 50's/60's style rod. It came with pleunty of 80's streetrod crap - Crap edelbrick chrome, a 10 pound billet air cleaner, crap 80`s camaro console, 90's sunpro gauges, power leather bucket seats and a big honkin 455 Olds shoehorned into the engine compartment. Its allll gotta go! (well, maybe Ill keep the 455 ) Thanks!
The basic shell of your Poncho is the same as the 49-52 Chevy Fleetline. The strip that runs down the middle of the hood is Stainless. I do know that the Poncho frame is diffrent from the Chevy frame. Also the front end is a tad bit longer than the Chevy.
the doors on the Streamliner as well as the Chevrolet Fleetline and whatever they call the Olds are unique to that body style. you can't put a 2 door sedan or coupe door on a fastback. they are different above the beltline. wing windows are different too. I have a 1949 edition of the Chevy -Pontiac - Olds - Buick interchange manual. it looks like Pontiac will interchange with Chevy. but some Olds doors are different. the book doesn't have body style, just part numbers
door from a coupe and 2 door sedan do not interchange readily. the sedan has an extra inch or so in height ...coupe only fits coupe... fast back is 2 inches shorter then a coupe door. and then convertible and hartop are there own monster. i put a fast back door and 2 door sedan door on my coupe they all fit you just gotta tweak em ems patch panels will fit you car for a 49-52 chevy if your worried about rust repair. from the cowl back your car is the same as a chevy.. you have 6 more inches in you fenders and hood of the pontiac
Thaks for the info! So unless I find a 49 Pontiac/Chevy Fastback door Ill be working with what I have, it looks like. I can dig it. How about the radiator? The stock radiator is trying to cool a 455 and it aint working out too damned well. From what I see, its alot easier to get a good aluminum 49 Chevy radiator than it is a Pontiac. Thanks again.
Check with AM Radiators in Phoenix (602) 424-4249. They build Pontiac radiators, made one for a 39 Pontiac for me awhile back. They look killer with the optional $75 polish job, cool very well and are priced right.
