Hello H.A.M.B. Nation. I just wanted to give y'all an update on our friend Dave Schaub and his 49 in 9 Campaign. He's all set to launch from Needles, California this coming Wednesday and won't let up until he's in Hyder, Alaska 9 days later. Here's a press release. Good luck Dave! Dave Schaubs 49 in 9 Street Rod Adventure Begins Wednesday, September 9th Los Gatos, Calif The most ambitious street rodding adventure in history gets underway next week as 59 year old San Francisco Bay Area native Dave Schaub will attempt to drive all 49 continental United States in just nine days behind the wheel of a custom 1932 Ford roadster. Schaubs grueling journey begins Wednesday, September 9th at midnight just outside Needles, California along Interstate 40. When he pulls into Hyder, Alaska 9 days later he will have driven his street rod 9,800 miles through the U.S. and Canada. The roadsters v8 Chevy engine will have burned 330 gallons of gasoline. A daunting task to say the least. An experienced adventurer with many years of cross country hot rod journeys under his belt, Schaub is supremely confident he can go the distance. "I'm doing this because people said it couldn't be done and I've always wanted to find a cool way to help some kids in need," he said. Since he first started drumming up interest in his journey last spring, Schaub has raised over $70,000 by asking folks for a penny per mile donation. Hes sold signage on his car to the likes of Eric Clapton (a well known street rod enthusiast), the Edlebrock Corporation, and many others. All proceeds he raises will go to the Ronald McDonald House. "It's going to be a long hard road. It will be the ultimate reliability run to test the mettle of me and my machine. When I get road weary, I will turn my thoughts to the kids. I'm hopeful that will give me the added boost to pull it off." According to the route map on his website (www.49in9.com) Schaub will blow through as many as 11 states in one day. On the 4th day of the 9 day odyssey, hell start out in Roanoke, Virginia and travel through West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont and New York all in the span of 18 hours. He plans on driving about 16 to as much as 20 hours per day to accomplish his amazing feat. If my calculations are correct, I should actually finish in 8 days and 17 hours, he said. Thats assuming I dont have any major delays. Ive done half of the route already and everything went smooth. My car is mechanically sound and Ive been doing a lot of physical training for the trip. Im good to go! A daily internet blog will be updated on his website. A satellite tracking device has also been added so fans can drop in and check his progress at any point during the nine day journey. The site also spells out his exact route and even includes a song he wrote about his amazing attempt. For more information or to donate, visit www.49in9.com
Acording to his website, he's already in Needles- does he leave tonite at 12:01 A.M. or hanging around Needles tomorrow and leaving tomorrow nite?
He is due to drive thru here next Monday sometime. I hope his tracking device will lock it down fairly close as to what time. I plan on being on the overpass on I94 and chase him a few miles. What a trip he will have, I would like to drive that course, but in several more days than 9!! I wish him well. Have a good trip. Dale
According to his website, he's leaving Tuesday A.M. at 12:01- plans to arrive in Tulsa Tuesday evening............
He's actually coming about 10 minutes away from me on Day4. I'll have to see if I can catch a sighting.

Thanks again for the support and thanks in advance to those who will help to make a difference for the Kids and families at Ronald McDonald House at Stanford. This is the last post for me till I get back, I won't have a computer with me. I will have people back home posting on my bolg at 49in9.com so check it out for the latest news and pictures. Also if you want to send photo's you took of me on the road, check the blog for that info. Thanks again, Dave Schaub aka butcher boy
Dave, I'm still planning on hooking up and running a bit with you on Sunday when you hit Michigan. Will be in touch when the time gets closer.
Just checked the 'live tracking' part of his page, and it looks like he's in Moriarty, NM. as of 11:47 am CST
From earlier today on Dave (Butcher Boy) Schaub's Blog: 48 States Down Today a little after 11 am Pacific Time, Dave crossed into Washington state. He’s managed to make it to 48 states in 7 days and approximately 11 hours of driving! He’ll end the day in {Kamloops, British Columbia}Canada then head out for the last day’s drive to Hyder, Alaska. He believes that he will make Hyder before midnight which would put his actual driving time at 8 days and however many hours! ... and remember ... it's not too late to donate! ... www.49in9.com
WOW! I don't know how I missed this, but this is really cool! I just made a donation and I'd like to challenge some of my HAMB-buddies to do the same. We just had a presentation at our church about all that the Ronald McDonald House is and does and I was really impacted by it! I really had no idea, cause I've never needed it, but from now on, I'll drop some money in every time I see an opportunity.
The Ronald McDonald House is a great charity... and Dave is a great guy. it would be cool to wave at him if he went through your area.
crap. i missed him by 4 hours. if i had seen this thread earlier, i would have walked down to the overpass and made a sign for him. it's literally a few blocks from my house. nuts. go dave go!
The website http://www.49in9.com/ tracking map works pretty well. At this time He's through 48 states and entering Canada. Unbelivable!
