I took advantage of the opportunity to pre-adjust the brakes using the famous stepped board. Opinions are mixed on this, but I found it useful. Then I asked my friends if they had a moment, and we put the body on the frame. It's nice to see things come together again. Greetings Harald
Just went through this entire thread. Awesome work. Keep it up. As others have said, always cool to see HAMBers across the pond bring back to life these old hunks of metal. That event in Denmark looks really cool!
Looking GREAT! I used the stepped board on my '34. It works well. I don't know what the mixed opinions are, but I can't think of a better way.
When I was researching brake adjustment, I read a variety of opinions, but I'd already done something similar on my Mustang by placing a piece of wood between the seat and the brake pedal and slightly preloading the brakes to see if the drums were pulling evenly. Regards, Harald
The event on the island of Rømø is truly a major event. Hot rodders come from all over Europe, with an estimated 45,000 visitors over the weekend, although the race only takes place on Saturday. It's very well organized. One half of the beach is full of campers and caravans. It's amazing. It's good that the Danes are so relaxed about it; that would be unthinkable here in Germany. I'm happy that something like this exists nearby. Here are some pictures: The aerial photograph shows the race track on the left, the open field, and the campers on the right of the access road. Regards Harald
We had put the body on the frame and I had inserted and tightened all the bolts. At the rear, on the brackets from the bumper mount to the body, I still had 3/4" of space. The body wasn't sitting on top there. Strange, I couldn't figure it out. Then I wanted to see where it would go, so I attached fenders to one side and mounted the wheels. It came down quite a bit. At the front, the shocks wouldn't go under the fender. I had to build a spacer to allow the shock to extend further outwards. I was able to do this using a box section, welded sleeves into the holes, and painted it black. Today I realized what I did wrong. I had placed the rear screw connection from the bumper mount onto the frame, but it needs to go under the section. So today I loosened all the screws on the body, lifted the body again, loosened the bumper mount, and reattached it correctly. I tightened everything down and the mount is now sitting correctly on the body and can be tightened without any tension. Greetings Harald
I bought new window regulators because I was having trouble winding the windows all the way up; they kept getting stuck and stopping. I had installed new felt channels, but they were warped, and the window pane was catching on them. Why were they warped? I had new window panes made to the original dimensions, but what was missing was the radius. They had sharp corners, and those were digging into the felt channel. Adding a radius to all four corners solved the problem, and now the windows go up and down smoothly. You have to figure these things out sometimes! Then I took the side and rear windows out again. I had already installed new seals, but I didn't like the fact that water could potentially get in between them. Then Aulitz posted that he had found and installed a seal with an outer lip, which looked great. I found and ordered a similar seal here in Germany and installed it, and I like it much better now. Greetings Harald
It's easy for you, it comes from Great Britain. It's the same one Aulitz uses, but unfortunately they don't ship to the continent. I found a similar one in Germany. https://themetalhouse.co.uk/product/rubber-window-glazing-seal-with-lip/ Greetings Harald
Hallo Harry. Wow, what a nice read! You're doing alot of the things, I've been wanting to do for ages! Still no RMF pics of no.12 or 43? Next time, reach out! We'll be there again for sure! Grüss gott, Daniel
I didn't photograph either of them. There are some pictures of the 43 online, but I couldn't find any of the 12. I received the 43 as a gift in the form of a Hot Wheels model. Regards Harald
I've now started installing the interior fittings. I had already made the lower panels and they were ready to be installed; the upper panels had to be made from scratch and covered with upholstery fabric. I still need to make the headliner pieces for the rooftop. Greetings Harald
Very nice Harald. I particularly like the door panel pouches. It seems like there is never a place to store all the little stuff we seem to bring along on every trip.
