I am trying to get the car out of the driveway today and now the carb is leaking like crazy and I see its leaking from the "rail" or "tube" on the carb on the drivers side. Its on the upper part of the carb. What to do? Also if anyone is in Southern California near whittier are that has a good 4bbl carb with manual choke please let me know! Thanks

Find yourself a Holley trick kit at a parts store. Their rebuild kits have the replacement grommets that you need that slide onto the ends of the tube. If the tube itself is leaking I know summit has the tubes for sale too. All you need is the model # on the carb.

That is probably your inlet fitting so get a wrench or screwdriver and tighten it.
The carb 'rail' or 'tube' is pretty basic stuff. You sure you got the right hobby?

I am sorry, i never thouht of the crosstube this heat has made me disagreeable.

Im new to this car and type of carb. Where would the model number be? It is definately leaking from there. Is that what holds the fuel and transfers? If it were to leak from there would it be alot? Im asking because there was a good emount of fuel on and around the base.

A few years ago at the round up. I got broke down on the side of the highway there in Austin. Gas was going everywhere. I started messing with it and it started to rain. That was the year it rained so bad. I was in the roadster with no top and no hood. Broke down right by one of the homeless trails that walks off into the woods. On top of that it's almost dark.
I ended up pulling the back of the holley and the tube off, pluging the tube hole and driving on two back to the park.

    What a close call!

    Good luck, You'll get it.

What size Holley? They are very simple. Is it a double pumper?

It's on the choke horn.... Like this LS-6 454 Holley carb...
The carb you have is probably List-1850 600 cfm..

A double pumper is a Holley crab that has 2 accelerator pumps on it. They generally have 2 fuel inlet lines also.

Well this carb has 2 fuel bowls like usual but inlt has one fuel inlet at the front drivers side of carb. Also the number on the choke horn under the filter is:

    List-1850-2

Take a couple of "close-up" pictures of it including one with numbers on the choke horn... Then post those on here... We'll tell what carb you have..
I've got books on the carbs.. ;)

It's just a rubber "O" ring, put a little Vaseline on the new one and slide it about half way up to the flare. When you put it back together put the tube in the hole gingerly, don't just shove it, and the O ring will seat square.
Now of course you have to remove the front bowl, which holds gas, don't let it scare you.

one of these is what you have

So when replacing the o ring is there one on each side of tube? Also when doing that I only need to take the front bowl off? Which is in the front of the car. Correct? When doing that will I need to buy a new gasket for that bowl or is it rubber? I need to get this car somewhat going today, do you think napa, autozone or even pep boys will have these few parts?

Actually, there are 2 different seals, the early style 'o' ring and the newer style that is a bit of a condum. A kit should have both types. Seein that i made an *** out of myself if you pm your address i'll send you all you need, the front bowl gasket, metering block gasket for the primary bowl & metering block and both types of seals. I have them in stock.

I was just wondering if maybe one of the local parts stores that I listed might have them in stock? I need to get this car going today since now it has to be moved.

Advanced auto usually has the 4160 (your carb) style gaskets, they might have the O rings too, call them

http://youtu.be/s9jybn72qw4 These videos will help you understand the carb and it's sub ***embly. By the sounds of things a complete rebuild kit will ensure peace of mind. A newfuel filter should be part of the renewal.

  22. 56, don't forget the Fuel Bowl Bolt Washers/Gaskets. I like to use the nylon ones, they hold up very well.

Don't forget the Holley web site, incredible information and very easy to navigate. You can print up a whole manual for your exact carb for free.

If the carbs are older, consider replacing the transfer tubes as well, they are cheap and that will eliminate problems even with new O-rings/seals. I like to use the VITON seals on all of my carb rebuilds.

I am looking to see if oreilly down the street has the fuel bowl seals,o rings for tube and anything else in stock. I need to be able to get this car atleast running and driveable today. Then later this week or next week possibly get a new carb or rebuild the one I have.

I've gotten generic o-rings that fit a Holley at Wilco (like Tractor Supply)

Well went to o reilly and picked up some parts and things for the project. I am working on a 1951 chevy 2dr hardtop. It has a 350/350 and a 4bbl holley which is what I am trying to get somewhat fixed here. The car doesn't have a choke cable so the previous owner had put a piece of coat hanger on the choke on the carb to keep it in place. Well I bought a universal choke cable, clear fuel filter, holley gasket (minor) rebuild kit, intake gaskets, carb cleaner and a 12 point socket for the intake bolts. I hate those damn bolts, I would much rather have normal ones. Who sells a kit at local parts stores? Those bolts that are on the intake now seem too long and don't even tighten down all the way. I can still move the washers around.

For saftey' sake I would not use that plastic fuel filter. Take it back and get a similar metal filter . The plastic ones can melt.

Here is the intake its a street dominator. The previous owner had put the 12 point intake bolts on it but since you cant get a socket into the space where the center bolts are they just didnt tighten them all the way down I guess. How do I go about taking them out? Where can I get regular bolts to use on the intake that wont interfere with the intake? Also my throttle and kick down linkage just looks like **** and I dont think functions very well either. What model from locar should I get? I would like it to be the stainless braided line type.

Get the number off of the air horn to find your rebuild kit, If it has a transfer tube between the fuel bowls it is not a double pumper. Most likely a 600. Remember to clean all gasket material off all pieces. This is most important... Clean, clean clean

I got all the situated now. The only problem I am having as of now is the 4 center bolts that hold the intake down. They are 12 point bolt heads and no socket will fit because of the intake. What to do? What type of bolt to get? Where can I get them?
