Morning Fellas I’m converting my 55 from a 2bbl to a 4bbl. I got new 64’ Dizzy and 4bbl intake as well as 4160 Holley…. Ok anyone got any advice on linkage setup. Please and thank you in advance Jax59
This would be the easiest way, mount the s**** behind your stock pedal. https://www.ebay.com/itm/403561136835?hash=item5df61e42c3:g:T3wAAOSwbFJhezBj
check out my blog, lots of photos, videos, and other tech on my 55 Ford Club Sedan. What you need really depends on the transmission you have. I too had the original 3 bolt Holley 94 on my 292, but when the B manifold route to put a modern 4 barrel carb on it. If you read my blog posts you will find that I eventually went the 3 speed OD route and so there was a trial and error with linkages, etc. If you do have the fordomatic you will need to install the linkage with for transmission rod (the same one can be used from your 2 barrel linkage). I do have a 55 Ford Fordomatic Manual that goes into better detail on getting all of this setup. Shoot me a private message and I will be happy to help. A Ford0matic linkage for a 2 and 4 barrel are essentially the same, the throttle pressure to the trans and the kick down are handled by the stock linkage that bolts to the intake with 2 bolts. All the aftermarket and stock manifolds are made with these 2 purchases cast in a drilled. There is one rod that connects this linkage to the carb which is different lengths and possible angles on the ends. The rod and clevice to the trans is adjustable at the linkage Back in the early days of Holley and other aftermarket carb's the made ones for Fords and Chevrolet specific. The Fords did not have the taller arm and long throw for full throttle. When using the Chevrolet style your need have a hole lower. If your carb doesn’t have one you drill for it after you determine full throttle by having some one in the car step the foot feed to the floor. I have made my own rods with the adjustment on the part connecting at the carb and the stock clip at the factory linkage on the mount.. ACE hardware sells the ball and socket style I use. I believe I used a 1/8” rod threaded for 8 or 10-32 bent to fit. If you have changed your transmission to a later style like a C4 disregard all I have said as it doesn’t pertain to stock. If you have a later Cruise0matic it’s the same as I said for the kick down only as a vacuum modulator con tolls pressure. A few photos follow in the next post; you can see I ADDED a home made part to RAISE for a needed hole because of the carb I chose. This on dual quad which is also meaningless. A single one of these carbs was used first alone with a longer home made link with the ball an spring socket you see. Next response has the photos
Stick or automatic? if automatic, get the linkage from a 55 or 56 4bbl car which should include the kickdown linkage. You will have to make a rod from the linkage to the carb. If stick, just use the stock piece that sticks up and run a rod from that to the carb. You may have to lengthen the stock part that stick up. That is what I did with my 54 ***uming the 55 is set up like my 54.
This is the original pieces I used, I tossed the X'd out pieces and purchased the swivel pieces at the hardware store along with the threaded rod. And of course I used double return springs. HRP
These are some pictures of the stock auto trans, 4 barrel linkage setup in my 55 just before I removed it from the car. I had changed out the stock 4 barrel 55 manifold for a 57 large base carb manifold, the only change that was necessary to the linkage was I added spacers under the plate that attached to the manifold to raise it up to the stock height. The mounting point was lower on the 57 / later manifold, you can see the spacers held on with the new cleaner looking bolts. This allowed the kick down / throttle pressure linkage to remain in the same adjustment range.
