I have a nice 55 Ford 2 dr post sedan powered by a 95 mark 8 DOHC ALL ALUMINUM v8 (pre Coyote-because) the next year1996 the same engine was installed in a Mustang and they called it a COBRA WITH 300 h p that powers the little 55 Ford quite rapidly but the shifting parts of the 4RW70 trans has me puzzled. 1—2 shift feel normal but in between 2—3 is a very slight rpm change or drop that on the tach registers maybe 30—40 rpm drop while barely and I do mean barely perceptible to the person in the drivers seat. I was wondering if the slight change was the torque converter “locking up” and then quickly after the slight change in rpm, the actual feel it easily 2—3 change occurs. The car has to be at 50—55 for the 4th and final gear change to occur. My question is what is the slight drop in rpm that can barely be felt by the operator b4 finally shifting from 2—3 which is very noticeable that the shift has taken place.I realized after posting this post that it should be posted in the off topic section but I mistakenly put it under the hokey ass message board forum,so does it get”scratched and trashed” or can someone with more computer skills change it to the OFF TOPICS PORTION??? This trans and engine and frt clip are all from a 1995 mark 8 Lincoln. I know this to be a TRUE FACT as the person or people involved in this build has a picture and a date that was purchased from a “yard” in Cali and it states clearly on the pay for it check the contents involved a 95 Lincoln mark 8. This year is made up with a 4 spd o/d where the 4th gear is the actual o/d part of the total trans. It is NOT a 6 speed as possibly suggested from an earlier “contributor”. I feel pretty certain the trans is a 4 spd o/d as suggested when looking in2 that year model specs. Thanks to all who supply an answer whether right or wrong;appreciate any input!!! Tcc may be locking up early it sounds like. It should not lock up until around 35-45 mph in third gear and steady cruising speed.

A quality shop scan tool will be needed, let you Record , Monitor.
RPM , speed , shift's, Lock up, gear in .
    Load ext .
When Originally built , a specific programed was wrote , Now may be need to be altered, There are limits to what can be changed with out a programmable Transmission controller
