Picked up a 5.0 ho with an e303 cam, some light headwork, and has a good carb and intake. I have an old wide ratio toploader with vgate shifter and lakewood blowproof bellhousing I would like to put up to it. Has one done this? What flywheel should be used? What clutch? Hydraulic? What all do I need? Thanks

    You'll need a late 50-oz imbalance flywheel.

If you are trying to stay with the 10.5" clutch, I believe you can use 83 or 84 Mustang (don't remember which) flywheel that would have the correct bolt pattern for the earlier clutch. Otherwise if your bellhousing will clear an 11" clutch that would make life much easier.

You can buy a kit to use an old Z-bar type clutch linkage on a newer motor (like 60s Fords). Otherwise you could attempt to rig up a hydraulic set up. What car are you dumping this in?

  4. you will need an early bellhousing as the newer transmissions input shafts are an 1 1/2 longer than an early toploader
newer bellhousings are an 1 1/2 deeper

He already has a lakewood blowproof bellhousing for the gearbox, he just needs a flywheel and clutch

Mustangs had a 10" clutch until 1986. 1986 was the first year for the 10.5".

A 10" clutch should be fine, just get a disc that fits the spline count on the input shaft.Remember an early clutch system pushes the clutch arm if you go hydro!! My COMET uses a 10" clutch,3300lbs,10.30s,418"Windsor!! ROY.
