5 Months to build a car from scratch for the Mpls Messaround...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Ruiner, Mar 24, 2007.

  1. I've got and old 650cfm power pack carb, if you want it I'll donate it to the cause.
You'll owe me a ride though.

Desperate times call for desparate measures. Good luck on the house and job situation. That car don't look too comfortable to live in.

"Do it to it!", Johnny. Figured you could use some positive motivation...:) You should keep your "Needs" list updated so we know what you're still wanting...

I've been working on getting the front suspension torn apart and cleaned/painted...my front suspension parts list is mostly stuff I can get from catalogs, unless someone has NOS or leftover parts laying around...I could use some Model A style wishbone perches, or the blank wishbone mount pins (either ones work for me), blank kingpins for '36 spindles (or any length for that matter), tie-rod ends on the spindle mounts (just 2, I have a special steering setup)...I need to find a brake set-up to swap over to juice brakes, but I'll be heading to the junkyard this weekend, so hopefully I'll find some there...you guys are going to like the simplicity of my steering setup...I'm using a stock '40 Plymouth steering column with the center steer pitman arm, and it appears that the steering arms are the perfect length to swap to the Ford axle, I just need to switch the two tie-rod ends to the Ford size and that should do it...simple, eh?

Here's a complete up-to-date list of the things I'm looking to buy to keep this project rolling, some of them are on my list for the junkyard this weekend, unless someone has these things laying around collecting dust...

    F-1, F-100 Brakes/Hubs
'61-'64 Pontiac rear brake drums, backing plates and wheel cylinders
    Pontiac non-HEI distributor for 350/400/455
'36 Ford kingpins w/o mechanical brake joints
Wishbone mount bolts or spring over axle perches
Ford tie-rod ends for '36 spindles
'40 Ford front spring clamps and U-bolts/mounts
    Model A front crossmember
Late 20's/Early 30's passenger car frame (mainly just the front horns)
    Pontiac motor mounts for 350/400/455
TH350 Torque Converter (stock or mild stall)

that's what I can think of off the top of my head, I'm sure there are a ton of other odds and ends...I've got a lot of the major components now, but it's all the nickel and dime crap that's gonna be the problem down the home stretch...

  8. hey whay part of the motor mount do you need the motor side or the frame side?

and heres a pic of the mounts i built for my 400

well, after seeing yours it'd be easy enough to just fab them...mine are cut in half from when someone removed the motor from the car, apparently they didn't want to unbolt it...looks like angle iron with a flat plate extension and some gussets, am I right?

I think I'll be building a tank for electro rust removal today...it'd be good to throw some hard to clean parts in there and let them clean themselves overnight...I'm back to painting and cleaning steering/suspension parts...the pitman arm and steering column are next to get the scrape and paint treatment and then hit the shelf until I need them...then I think I'll remove the front door hinges and mount them on the doors I'm using, since the hinges on my usable doors are all bent to hell...see you tomorrow for another update...

  12. thats all both of those are really since the mounting flange on the block is upright its fairly simple and not as ugly as the stockers

Do you not need the 3rd motor mount bolt? i love this electrolysis tank, i've got brake backing plates in and de-rusting...gonna get to the door hinges today too...

  15. nope i just used the bottom two the face for the top one is further out from the others so it would be a pain to try to get it to work and my buddy (second pic) has a few thousand milles and on problems
