I would consider rebuilding the original one. My sock '50 would vapor lock when the pump got weak. Replaced it and haven't had an issue with it since.

  3. Start with the easy stuff, check the filter or change it if it's old. Make sure there's no kinks in any of the lines.

I had a Suburban do that to me years ago and somehow a willow leaf (long and thin) got into the fuel system and up to the inlet side of the filter, which on those is underneath along the frame in-line. So of course I found it when I went to change said filter.

If the rubber lines are not recent (all of them), replace them.

Use ones rated for fuel injection. They seem to hold up best to fuel additives, like ethanol.

The fuel lines get varnished up, along with the gas tank, and need to be cleaned out, especially after sitting "14 years". Take the insert from an old speedometer cable, and chuck it in an electric drill. Use that to "roto rooter" the metal fuel line from both ends; it's flexible enough to go around bends, and stiff enough to remove crud. We did that to the 51 Bus coupe for a similar problem, it was plugged, and now is completely free of obstruction. Or, you could replace the fuel line, but why? I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
