So, discovered my rear vent window is also missing the lower spindle. Found one but 175$ I'm thinking nah How would I make it a fixed rear window a la business coupe?
Does the window on the opposite side have one? I call that a free blueprint. Now get crafty and build something that works.
Business Coupe windows were fixed. That's new glass, new rubber.....all that stuff. There's no free pass. More often than not, the right part ends up being the bargain. Make it? Sometimes there no other option but if the part is available there can be false economy in making stuff. Example..... You got to get the stock. So, you have to ride around to the steel place or box store. You wind up buying enough stock to make 3 dozen parts. You need more stuff though. Drill bits, saw blades, maybe some files...some hardware.... You got to eat. Did the wife and kids go? That's dinner. Sometimes fabrication does not work out. Your new creation sometimes is.....crappy. Speaking for myself, sometimes I have made stuff, been very proud and then I realize I made a piece of junk. Gas... Stuff... Food... Tools... At the end of the day, you spend 300 bucks on a quest to save $175. And then.....you order the part.
Agree with all of that, however, glass needs to be replaced anyways, same as rubber, only thing I figure I need to make it fixed is the trim around the glass. Otherwise, I need to replace that stuff anyways, and either find the vent window(ive found 2 at 200$ a side) or try and weld the spindle back on to the vent window. Who knows how that goes. In the end it likely breaks again So my thought is to just fix it once.
The really really simple way to avoid all the headaches you posted up is to know what you can do and your limitations as well as what you have on hand to work with. Either you can, can't or want to try. One of the 3 choices. Fun costs Money, that's a fact. Figure out where you're going to spend what. Then move on.
Not really. The faux rear vent window on the tudor doesn't open. The Club coupe rear window does. And it's actually the rear side window, not a vent.
Noni think that's a Tudor vent. The coupe is longer. Shoebox central told me how to make this window a business coupe fixed window. So I think I'm all set. Thanks guys
