If you look to the left side of the disc and turn your head sideways you can see where it's marked in white letters "flywheel side" :)

    Trans. mount time...

Decided to modify the stock one rather than make a new one. After putting the rubber mount on the trans. I used some long bolts to hold it in place to see where it hit and by how much.

Then marked out the area to be cut...

Had to clearance the bottom opening just a little as well so a socket could get to the bolt heads easily...

Then cut some 1/8" plate and boxed it all in. Closed up the big section someone had cut out before as well. Still don't know why they did

    Clutch linkage bracket...

    And in the car...

Aside from the lower rad. hoses and a few misc. bolts and wires it's ready to break it in :)

Exhaust guy changed to Friday which should give me enough time to get everything needed to start it finished up. If all goes as planned it might be running on Saturday :confused:

Then back out with the trans. to make the throwout bearing work somehow.

10 days until it needs to be done...gonna be close

Stole the shifter out of my '48 for the test ride....not sure what I'm gonna use for a shifter on this one yet...might be a pair of vise grips with the time thats left ;)

  23. Ahhhhh. Thanks for the maiden voyage video, it's like I was there.

It's offically ALIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE! Took it for a 20 minute ride and everything seems good so far. :D:D:D

Overheating issue seems to be fixed, I took out the thermostats since I'm running Skip Haney water pumps. Got all the leaky head bolts sealed up too.

Only real issue now is my throttle linkage, even with a heavier return spring it dosen't want to close tight unless you tap the pedal and let off real quick.

I put a second spring and an adjustable stop inside the car to fix the throttle issue on my truck. Works like a charm!

    Hey Dan,

Great thread! A few of questions for you. How did you finally modify the throwout bearing? What parts did you end up using to make it work. Do you still have the stock rear end with 4.11 or 3.73 gears? And best question of all, how different does it drive?

Well Dan stopped by my house in the 50 with his Dad. It was a real suprise. I was finishing up the stereo in my Caddy so I will have music for my trip. I would say that the car is driving fine. He did a real nice job with the motor and ******.

My throwout bearing setup is still in the "testing phase" so I don't want to say to much about it until I've got some miles on it and am sure it will work. It's complicated and simple at the same time. If it continues to work as well as it has so far, I'm thinking of making a few of them and trying to sell them since the hard part (figuring it out) is already done.

EDIT: 7-02-11 I went ahead and made the conversion piece. You can check them out here---> http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=604298

I'm running a Maverick 8" rear with a 2:79 ratio. I was planning on changing to something around a 3:90 but it drives great like it is since the flathead is so torquey down low. Since it's an S-10 trans first gear is really low, with a 3:90 ratio I think first would be pretty much useless. I've got no problem taking off if second as it is.

The difference in how it drives is UNBELIVABLE! It's an entirely different car. I can't recommend the T-5 swap enough! :D

After I'm positive everything is working together, I plan to do a tech post on the T-5 swap with all the parts used and modified. If you have any questions before that though just let me know, be happy to help.

Thanks Todd! I think I'm gonna need a stereo setup like yours (still can't belive how good it sounds) to hear it over those open pipes though

You should take a video of the sound from the back end of the car. Would love to hear it. I was contiplating running straight pipes too, either that or Porter mufflers.
