I believe that is earlier than a 50, you can tell by the flat grill. The axle actually looks like a stock jeep 2 wheel drive axle, looks just like the one in my 47 truck, the spring mount areas on top of the axle are really wide and flat, looks like maybe the high arched springs were added to handle the weight of the sbc?
The front axle is actually a Ford! looks like an F-1(48-52) Like I said earlier, the guy I got it from had a restored Jeepster, the stock front end is a kind of independent with a single cross leaf like a Ford, well at least his was. Maybe it was an optional front end. I agree that most 2 wheel drive jeeps had a similar front end as this one but it is definatley a Ford, plus you can tell its been fabbed on by the gorilla stick weld job on the steering box mount, shock mounts and where they extended the frame to accomodate the shackles. I think a gasser would be cool too though! But as I mentioned, the decisons on this one are not mine!
I can't believe it but I think it'd make a neat gasser style car too. What ever the young guy does do with it will be cool though. Lots of character in those old things.
No updates as of yet!! this thing is just sitting in his garage all tore down! He got busy, and had a kid and then another! So He may be getting rid of it! If so it will be on here for sale!
So I just talked to the guy who has it now, well he has moved on to an old school cafe bike and no longer wants this Jeepster. So he gave it to me! So now what!!! He pulled the F-1 axle out and has the front fenders off, and now I have to move as a non-roller! No big deal, I moved worst! Anyways, I also got a 67 327 with it! Anybody interested in it? Offers trades? I'll get it home and post a for sale add! Or maybe go for it? Nooooo! I've got too many projects, and I'm a Ford guy anyways!
