I have been readin the posts on the HAMB and see a ton of skilled people who can realy work with this old tin. I am doin a 50 Merc Club Coupe chopped sort of like the 49 Sam Barris car. Things are gong well so far and I am near paint. My major sticking point is the rear 1/4 window stainless trim. The windows will be stationary, but I want the trim to look at stock as possible, so I need to bend it. The problem is that it seems there is no bending this stuff without kinking it. Heating doesn't work and I only have a few good mouldings so I don't want to get into a lot of trial and error...any thoughts? I attached a few pics to help with the visuals... Thanks E
I use the flexible door edge molding, so Im out, but man you have a nice Merc and probably the NICEST front splash pan Ive ever seen!
thanks for the kind words...this is a long term project but I am hoping to hit the road sometime next year... E
kool dude love the chop on the merc hope it all goes well for you and it see's the road soon. i chopped a bug a few years ago and used rubber seals but that is a mighty bend you have to take if you cut the back of the trim off it should bend easier for you the strenght is in the channel. be carefull though. best of look www.bolgersbodyandpaint.com
If you have acess to a tig welder you could cut and fit the molding and then weld it and polish it....just my 2 cents
I have the same problem, I don't have any window stainless trim at all. My plan is to the black rubber weatherstripping, and then look for a local guy to bend up some for me. Bad Bob has some clamp on stuff, but I don't know where to buy it. I'd like to get a piece to see if I like how it looks.
Thanks all, I am thinking of farming out the molding project, but I kinda hate to do it since most everything else will be done in my little shop... One guy wanted $2600 to bend 2 mouldings, but that is a little rich for me...I like the idea of cutting the back and tig welding the seams...
