Sell it here whole before you part it. That thing doesnt look terrible. Would be a good candidate for an Olds floor/frame swap.

  3. The Lincoln '49's door handles were push****on unlike merc ones.
This looks like a '49 to me.

Go for it build the baby it'll make one fine cruiser. I built a '41 Ford convertible that didn't look as good as this Linchon that went on to be a Rod & Custom top 100 in 2001. Take your time and get the parts you need to make it into a cool Merc. Good luck with the build.........................

    CRUISER

i think you should save it....you are right,,those lincoln noses are kinda ugly,,,id buy the merc nose, and either do a clip, or put it on another frame,,,the car is definitely saveable,,especially since you already know where to get a merc nose for it,,,,,i dont know my 49-51 mercs as well as i should,,but i think yours is a 49..

Thanks for all the responses guys.

I think the frame is ****ed on it, it's really bent, I wouldn't want to try to clip it. Another HAMBer wants the drivetrain and I'm probably going to part out the Lincoln specific pieces that I wouldn't use on a custom and just keep the rest as-is. I'm looking into a couple of Mercury 4 door parts cars and I'm hoping to get one to donate it's frame and front clip to make it a whole car.

As far as the year goes, it's got a 3 piece rear window and push****on door handles like a '49, but it's got a 50 dash and a 50 grille, so I'm not really sure what year it is. And I guess it's not a Lido, it's just a Lincoln standard coupe.

I don't know if I'll ever build it, but I won't cut it up either, I'll keep the body intact in one piece.

Go for it man, if you can make that 60 Plym a 2 dr, making that into a neat Merc shouldnt be a big deal right? :D

Just from the back of my mind if it helps you at all (I swear I mentally catalog all Mercs for sale haha) There was a member Junkyard Dog 32 in Cable Wisconsin who had a bunch of Mercs. Talk to him? Might be able to pick up something on the cheap that will yield you a kick*** Mercury on a budget.

  10. Mercs are rare in the MW, I think if you cobble something together it's always going to hold value. You could get it to roller status and cut off the bad stuff and it's worth more.

That's kinda the plan as of right now. I'm going to sell off the stuff that wouldn't get used, hopefully aquire a 4 door parts car so I can put the coupe shell on a Mercury frame and have a Mercury front clip, then part out what's left of the parts car body (there's always guys looking for rear window sheetmetal, door tops, dashes, ect.)

Then once I have a whole car I'll just keep it around, either to build it (I'd love to do it but I have about 5 years worth of projects that need to come first, if I get through all those it could just be here waiting for me) or if someone else decides they want it I could sell it as a complete project car.

The radiator is mushed into the fan for sure, I don't know if the engine is pushed back into the firewall or not, might be, hard to see with the frontend sheetmetal still intact.
