Does anyone know of a universal rubber for '50 merc doors and trunk. The original is too hard. Thanks
If you're just looking for a cheap way out til you get the correct rubber from Steele or some other supplier, you can go to a home center such as Menards or Home Depot and get some universal closed cell black self stick foam. It comes in various widths and thickness on a roll. Works pretty good in a pinch. Better than nothing at all.
7 posts in seven years......... With the cars you have listed- and a Merc- you want to skimp? Just buy the correct rubber items.......
I have found the correct rubber is so hard i can't shut door. I thought there might be a universal rubber that would do the job and be softer. I am looking for a permanent fix. Thx
Don't want to skimp at all. Would pay twice price of correct rubber if the door would shut. Talked to s guy at James Dean and he said he broke his gl*** trying to shut with the original hard rubber. Thx
A good auto upholstery shop should be able to match on that would work. There is one here that carries lots of door and trunk gaskets.
