do you need to upgrade pressure plate to run hyd throwout bearing. Running 50 merc flathead with original pressure plate with Borg Warner t5 trans. McLeod hyd throwout bearing seems to hang up and not return fully causing clutch to slip.
Check how throwout hits the clutch fingers. '49-50 merc uses a BIG throwout bearing, same as '32-48 Ford, and has short fingers to fit that. T5 setup probably uses a little late model size throwout, and I'll bet it is pushing into the too-big circle and jamming up! If marks on fingers show that, just buy a 52-3 Merc pressur plate, done. (early '51 use early plate, late '51 use the '52-3 type) If this is the problem...Id likely buy the early plate, as they are good for what I'm up to and they are moderately scarce.
