Flop: Excellent chop and enlightening thread....I noticed your comments about working on the hood... I think that your car is really elegant from the A-pillar back and while it's your car, I'd like to throw an idea your way...before you start cutting up the hood, might I suggest you consider a '50 Cadillac grille and headlights...maybe some '47 Sombreros , and a nice dark color and you might just have yourself a truly landmark kustom for the ages...So for your consideration I'd like to show you a couple of quick Photochop ideas.

    Just a thought-W.S.

diggin your work man thanks alot.

probablly gonna use a 53 caddy top grill surround bar made to work with the 53 chevy surround.still gonna have to make the hood match the peak of the grill surround bar. now your gettin me all excited again to work on the car again. plus i have a 53 caddy layin around for parts with a solid hood and a solid 49 caddy hood so there are so many variables now.im gonna finish up the chop the open the next can of worms.

once again thanks for the photoshops

  8. Wow. Awesome work.

I'm with X38 on this one. It's good to see you've gone to the extra trouble to finish off all the fiddly bits that no-one will ever see. Will be keeping an eye on your progress for sure.

Great proportions and great tech. Thanks for taking the time.

I'd missed this one up to this point too. I don't think I've ever read through a 19 page thread non-stop before. I don't think I can add any accolades that haven't already been spoken. But I will say that deciding not to "hardtop" it was just one more 100% correct decision on your part. I will now subscribe to this thread and continue to watch your progress.

Just curious, but when you get burned out, do you ever just have to get away from cars? I get so involved in so many of my customers projects, that by the time it's my turn to work on my own stuff, I don't even want to be in my shop. And when I'm away from my projects, they are all I ever think of? How do you deal with the burnout? Clean work BTW...

welll i fianlly finished the chop im back on the pontiac horse again.
and no the posts arnt mising they just have black paint on them that i havent ground off. well all of my hard work has payed off and now its on to the next adventure of the hood. what a good feeling it was grinding and hammering that last weld pheeeeew!!!!

    next its onto the hood.

53 chevy surround. yah i kno everyone uses them but they look killer in my book . gonna fill the big strip. plus i want the car to have a stock feel nuthing outrageous.and the green tape is where the new hood line is gonna be (not set in stone but you get the idea)the front of a pontiac is to flat and boring needs something to spice it up a bit. so keep watchin for some updates now that im not sick of the car anymore.

On 54 pontiac bonnets (hoods) they have a raised part and I always thought this one looked good...filled the centre but leave the two raised lines. Food for thought.

Car looks awesome, been following this one for a while, well done.

Very glad to have some news from you and your killer Poncho , Flop ! :D

I don't really like the new hood line , i prefer when the hood integrate the lip ( 53 chevy surround .... isn't it a 54 ?) . If you think the hood is too flat you could fill the silver streak, and make a little center peak... would look stockish too :D

    just my 2 ct !

Man I am finally at the end of this post and I have to be a sheep and say awesome job man this car is on track to be one of those cars people refer to like coles 54s or a barris merc wow I am jealous! glad you are gonna bag it and a little bummed sounds like you are gettin rid of the silver streak on the hood? how about the glowin indian head hood ornemant? be sweet to keep at least the head? OH man how about as an interior light on either side of the dash? Ok sorry will keep my ideas to myself love the car man hope you keep up the posts so we can see it through to the end !

  27. Yeah, I just did the quarters on my '51...probably a lot easier than moving those quarter windows back like you did!! I'd bet they're gonna flow nicely and compliment that long front end on your Poncho...keep up the good work.

glad to see you back on it...
im in the process of purchasing either a henrob or similar setup so i can hammerweld the miles of weld on my section job......
decided not to graft the caddy hood front on i guess?

a 48 olds grille would look killer in there....wouldnt be all that hard to do..
    just something to consider..
