they didnt give you the drill.i got a piece one time and they pilled out this little dremel drill and a tiny ass bit.that was freaky as hell.i didnt like the orange crap they put in my eye to numb it.it was also there so they can really see where the piece was.after that ordeal.the nurse came in to give me a tetness shot.when she pulled out the covering for the needle it was all bent.it looked like some sound waves.at least she got another one.keep up the awsome job on the car.
ohh yeah i got the little dremel thing with a burr on the end to get the rust out that the needle couldnt get. the orange stuff is crzy and some times you can see the reflection of the needle in your eye in the crazy eye machine thing your in. all in all it wasnt to bad and the steroid cream i gotta put in my eye really peps me up haha !!
dont be a wuss,,,,, you still have one good eye,,,get the hell out there... hahah,,,,,know what it feels like,,,NOT good...hope you feel better soon,,,
... I wish I had metal fabrication skills like that! I would gladly give up my ability to pinstripe, for that kind of talent! Simply outstanding and inspiring! Great work man, and you deserve every bit of praise you will recieve when that killer ride hits the street! I'm sure you'll have a beaming sense of self-pride afterwords...and you deserve it! Definitely something to be proud of!
yah thanks for the words man .. dont think i able to part with this one when its done . way to many hours and way to much stress and knowing how every curve of the car feels .. yah i kno it sounds gay but your put almost 2 years into a body of a car you know how it is . today i think im gonna start messin around with the hood strip seeing how much crown it needs etc etc etc. dont think the caddy fender idea will work the crown is different side to side on that green piece from the fender.
started with the hood today got alot done in a little time. started fillin the strip. the long piece on the top of the hood was made in a slip roll with as tiny as a cureve you could get in it. it gave it the perfect curve . also if anyone else is messin with a pontiac the magic number is 7 and 3 16ths wide with the amount of curve put it it took out a 16th of an inch and fits perfectly in a 7 and 1/8 orig gap. gotta find and english wheel and learn how to use it to make that center part thats missing. nuthing like a curve needed in 2 directions,,..
major metal plans on the horizon ..totally not diggin the hood on this car i donot like how much its comes to a point in the front. caddy hood more flat and much wider. 49 caddy nose to the rescue. so watch for the caddy nose on the pontiac soon.
that whole front of the pontiac hood is gettin cut off thanks for the tip though chaddilac. have a feeling there is gonna be some sectioning involved on the caddys part . also gotta make the side of the caddy hood match and run into the orig poniac side.
Amazing metal work, and tastefull chop!! It's great to have people like you raising the bar!! Buzz bomb
well heres how one would go about with the brilliant idea of putting a different hood on your car haha... first i cut the 49 caddy hood off of its orig. frame work what i was left with is just the out skeleton and the front brace heres my cut lines layed out.. i got nuthin to go off of on this one just shootin in the dark i didnt use the center piece of tape yet that was gonna be if i was going to need to take some out of the middle .
well the caddy hood in the end is gonna be in 3 pieces. i took about an inch out of the hood goin accross so it would line up nice. then it needs all welded up after i looked at these pictures nads i think you may be right. look one of those fancy oldsmobile hoods haha
hah! what a cool idea with the hood. And good for you for taking the risk of cutting a hood up in pieces and welding it all together. I did it too, after a lot of people told me it was a bad idea and it would come out warped to hell. Obviously you did fine with the center strip, so the rest should go just as smoothly. I gas/hammer welded mine, are you hammering the MIG weld? ESAB easy grind? This is one of those cool types of tricks that REAL traditional customs are lacking these days. Simply shaving off some trim is easy, its the idea of doing something that totally changes the look of the car, or just one part, and while it looks subtle (as in someone who didnt know may not really see what was done), it improves the look immensely, but took a ton of devotion, talent, and effort to achieve. Great work!
yah it took alot of thinking to figure out how i was gonna do it but it all came together. the center strip sucked because ya cant get under it . so ya gotta be real careful with that. its a little warped but ithink i can pull it with the stud gun and use a torch to bring some spot up and lower some highs.. its hard to hammer mig .it likes to crack(you proobably know how that works)....i use aloooot of studs around the weld and a hammer and dolly to get crown back. . i wish i was back to shaving trim haha instead i wanna change hoods .. its gonna be one of those stupid little things about 2 people notice but thats what this whole car is about .i dont want an over the top radical car .. i will get my over the top with all its subtleties.and everyone wondering why it looks so stock yet custom at the same time. i dont kno what kind of wire i have chad what ever is the cheapest at the body supply house.. all and all the new piece went on with little trouble.my gaps are a little fatter then what i like to weld to, but what are ya gonna do.
cars comming out really bad ass. Just by looking through the photos and reading the posts i feel like i know 2x as much about sheet metal work. how many friggen caddys are at that shop?
thanks brandon. i think they multiply over night 3 more just showed up yesterday so i am guessing theres around 10 59 and 60 caddys there and i have a 53 caddy laying around
well back at it again for 8 hours heres what i got done. shows how dif the body line of the hood is. heres with the bottom piece in place to mark the line for what needed to be removed from the orig hood. cut lines marked out. yah all the other work was for not but it will be better in the end.
woooooops haha this is what im left with cut out all the rounder corner stuff i did before it just wasnt gonna cut it with the new hood and i think would look like i was tryin to hard. started to remake the frame work of the hood. also leaving the brace down the center and will be welded to the new hood. also that is where the hood latch bolts too.
