Wow, I wish the outside of my tinwork looked as good as the inside of yours (it's why I'm still practicing on scrap).

finished up the inner brace on the drivers side pretty much so it looks stock which im happy the way it turned out alot i dont know why im upsessed with gettin these to look good but what ever !!

this weekedn goin to get the roof pieces and drip rail i need so i can finish this side of the car up !!!

this is the original piece cut down some all the old spot weld holes were welded up . the chop changed where they all went so i drill new ones and spot welded to the inner brace
    [IMG]
    fillin in some holes
    [IMG]

everything is back to the stock look. i wanted to do it nice so who ever gets it next says wow someone took some time on this one .

    thanks preach...

well i scored a 50 caddy front bumper and a 53 caddy rear bumper thanks to cadillac dave for the rear.

so gonna have to cut back into the rear quarters again woooo.
and the 50 caddy on the front should give it that heavy look i want and comes out to a weird point that i think will fit with the desoto grill nicely

not only do I wish I had the skills but also the balls to tackle it!
awsum work, and on a Pontidog to boot.
1 (stupid) question, what are you using to get that final brushed steel look?
    PLEASE..................don't stop the diary!

  12. SUM BITCH! that some serious undertaking there and you did it with fantastic workmanship.

A while back you mentioned that you chopped the car according to the front windshield... Was the windshield new? and what windshield did you use? I'm getting ready to chop my 50 Chevy and I have loved reading this post...

    Thanks.

hey preach windshield was new a one piece olds deal. had to get it cut. dont remember what year it was from . tri valley glass in cali cut it for me the guys a hamber so i figured i would give him the work

i dont kno if anyone has them prechopped. but i got my glass first and fit the opening to the glass. still needs a little bit of the edges ground down but other then that its perfect

and sorry nads and blkcat that i make you ashamed :p

    thanks turbo

49dodge i do all my work in 100 grit 3m roloc disks .treats the metal alot nicer then say 24 or 36 grit rolocs . i knock my welds down with the 4 1/2 inch grinder a lil first though.

well got the whole drivers side roof done welded up etc etc etc

came out really well in my opinion

heres the inner brace from the inside from last update

rooof after it was welded up without the drip rail on..

test fit of the ol drip rail.after that i sand blasted it and coated the underside in some weld thru primer so i could get some spot welds under there.

never though in my life i would have 3 hours into getting a drip rail to fit right . between the hammer and dolly filling and adding some with weld where it needed it it sure was quite the pain in the ass but the time spent payed off
    [IMG]

heres the last one with the roof done and drip rail in. next im gonna weld up the pillar and put in the door top and wing window

Only found this thread last night. Your fault I was so tired at work today. It was like a good book...couldn't put it down. Great thread. It's making me think again about chopping my 52 Chev though. Don't think I can do it.

I've read a few threads about chops now where guys say pancaking a trunk is much harder than the chop. I'd like to see if someone has a better way of doing that.

yah thats zed your not the one doin it!!!!! :p

on the trunk striper i seen guys split them up into about 4 pieces and do them that way adding one big metal strip instead of a bunch of pie cuts either ways its a lot of tack welding on a piece of metal that likes to warp very easily.

and atleast some else lost some sleep over this car and its not me for once!!!
