I'd heard alot about this board and have been pouring through the archives taking in as much info as I can, and trying to help out. Finding this board has only given me more determination to get the last few weeks worth of work done on my old Poncho. Anyways.... here's a few pics for interested parties... Anyone else in the Edmonton area?
looks like the canada cars are basically chevys with pont sheet metal, the 51 pont i just clipped is nothing like the frame and firewall i see in the pics, wish it had of been its a lot simpler to mustII a chevy than deal with the pont frame.the pont heater is a nightmare complicated deal in the way of everything.
Hit the nail right on the head with that one old dirt tracker. Most of the weatherstrips and interior stuff swaps right in. The MII was done by a local shop that does bolt in crossmembers for just about anything you want. www.macgyvers.com When did you used to hang around the dirt?
i did most of my dirt tracking in az with stock cars a little in new mexico and calif. in the 70,s and 80,s. what is the wheel base on your canadian pont, mine is 120".
Rolled the old girl out into the sun today. Still have lots of little stuff to take care of.... some plumbing, some wiring, little bit of fit and finish. I had to see what it looked like largely completed. The chrome for the hood should be finished next week and will only help to finsh the car off. Should be cruisin this fall... hopefully sooner than later...
Just because I'm stupid and require explanation and basically a method to a person's madness.................WHY in the HELL did you make a 12.4 mile long filler neck to that fuel cell, when ya could have just relocated the filler door? That son of a gun is gunna get in your way EVERYTIME. I'd of relocated it to the back of the car or put the fuel cell off center..........something. I just don't get it, how in the hell are you gunna get your suitcases and bundles of shoes in there?
Bundles of shoes.... suitcases... I'm a guy Brandy... I pack one bag... lol... The cell fits down nicely between the framerails where it is, and the filler parts are circle track stuff we made work. It's not built to haul luggage... it's just built to haul... lol.. Thanks for lookin!!
Oh that's right, one pair of tighty whities and a toothbrush. No really I'm asking because I'm going to run a fuel cell in my 55 Poncho, but was thinking of something cylinder shaped to set ontop of my diff hump *a bump bump bump*................but now I think I'm going to have to flush mount it, because it looks like I'll be running an air compressor. I just don't wanna have to worm myself around a filler neck when the time comes to fiddle with my compressor. Circle track, guess I could go to the local shop here and harass a counter jockey.
Check the Jaz website Brandy, that's where this one came from. It's intended for a circle track app, so the fittings are on the top... (hidden... shhh). They offer them with sending units in em too. The cell just had a big filler cap on it when I got it, but wanted to keep using the stock filler door. That's where the 45 degree filler comes in to play. I've been around circle track stuff all my life, so it's only natural it should trickle down into my toys...
So it still vents thru the original filler door? I don't wanna do that........but I need to think up a keen way to still vent the sucker. If I'd take time to stop and look at it, I'd of already figured it out............but I get sidetracked easily.
You could run the vent line anywhere you wanted... i still haven't figured out exactly where to put mine... I'll let you know if I find a good way to vent...
Here is my 52, I hope to get it sold here in the next couple weeks. I was on the fence about all the stainless and chrome pontiac used when I first got it, maybe I was too used to the chevrolets but since owning it I've grown to really like the early 50's pontiacs. The only styling cue I still can't get over is the huge speaker grill in the middle of the dash, I like smooth uncluttered dash and gauge layouts but thats just a personal taste deal. Shameless plug but here is a link to the sale http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=202624 s.
There's actually more Chevies than Pontiacs up here so I went the different route. That big speaker grill is useful for something.... that's where I hid my shift light...
Hell you could hide an outdoor halogen yard light in there and still have room for the clock! Since most of the canadian pontiacs were just pontiac sheetmetal, could you get a straight eight model in Canada? I figured they must have all been sixes since the longer nose was required for the straight eight. s.
Nice idea with the yard light... might be a tad bright at night tho.. As far as I know, only 6's. This one was missing when I got it. I'm actually suprised that the factory weight for the cars was 31-3200lbs, a straight 8 car would have been a tank!! I've actually used a ton of chev parts from Chevs of the 40's without any problems. Gotta love interchangeability...
Tank is fitting! I do like the transmission, it shifts real hard if you want it to but the redline on these straight eights has to be mid 3 grand, and even at 3 grand you still can't hear the exhaust. s.
